Firefox Reaches 200 Million Downloads

First things first, I have to say congrats to the folks over at Firefox. No mater how many folks out there might say that Firefox isn’t the browser for them for this reason or that reason, 200 million speaks volumes. It shows there has been and will be an audience for such a browser.

Here is what Asa Dotzler had to say via the SpreadFirefox.com Web site:

Let me start off by saying that YOU ALL ARE AMAZING! Today the Firefox download counter crossed the 200 million mark. We know that this number doesn’t represent actual users because this number includes both Firefox 1.0 and Firefox 1.5 (soon Firefox 2,) because not every one completes every download, and because not every download results in a new Firefox user.

Swiftfox

Swiftfox is an optimized build of Mozilla Firefox. Swiftfox has builds for both AMD and Intel processors. The 1.5.0.5 release is based on Firefox 1.5.0.5. The trunk is the most cutting edge of all the builds and is where Firefox 3 is being developed. Branch builds are built from a code base that has been tested much more than the trunk and therefore should be considered to be more stable. The 1.8 branch is where Mozilla develops Firefox 2 which will be the next major Firefox release.

WebMemo

How many times can you honestly say that you have used the history feature in Firefox? I have gone back and forward a lot, but I don’t really use the history. Am I weird or are you the same? Well, I have found a new Firefox extension that might get me a little more interested in using it again.

Block the Naughty Words

A few four letter words got you down? I do not think you will have to worry about it on this Web site, but on others you might have a problem with curse words getting on your screen. If this happens to you and you don’t want it to, you need the Profanity Filter! This script filters profanity from Web sites.

To use this script you must have Greasemonkey for Firefox installed.

Digg This! Firefox Extension

Due to how popular Digg is, you would think there would be more Firefox extensions related to it. I just have not seen too many become too popular. The Digg This! Firefox extension hopes to change all that.

The Digg This! toolbar adds two buttons to your main Firefox toolbar and one menu. With the toolbar buttons you can quickly goto to Digg or Digg the page you are viewing. The menu allows you to goto your Digg profile or any of the top Digg categories.

If you do a lot of digging, then this extension is right for you.

Visit Planet Mir

planet_mir-4.jpgIt has been a while since I changed my Firefox theme. I have been using Mostly Crystal most of the time these days, but I thought I would look around and see if I could find a different one I liked. That is when I decided to take a trip to Planet Mir and I do have to say I like what I see. This theme is different and cute. A real clean interface, and with time it might be one of the number one choices out there.
