Firefox 2 Unstable?

I found this random snipit from the Center for Citizen Media.

Running the latest version of Firefox is a huge drag — repeated freezes that require a forced shutdown of the application on my MacBook Pro. Growing pains for the Mozilla folks or just sloppy coding?

That’s it. Now why go Online, post a totally random comment and not back it up with any proof? Now, I have never used Firefox on any Apple product, but these sort of cheap shots just make me a little angry. If this is “citizen media” I think I favor the older kind best. ;)

I have an new Intel iMac, and ever since i updated firefox to version 2 its crashed multiple times. Happens alot at myspace, and weather.com, but then randomly it happens too. I think they just made a loophole somewhere thats making it freeze up. I suspect their first update for version 2 will fix it though. I dont mean to say firefox is a bad browser either, I would rather use a glitchy version much more than ie, netscape, or opera. Another one im starting to play with some that works pretty nice is SunriseBrowser.

I agree with Daniel. I have never had any problems with Firefox 1.5. However, since I downloaded 2.0, I had the browser crash at least once a day. I have not seen any pattern yet. It just does so randomly.

I’ve installed Firefox 2 on three Windows PCs and have had repeated freeze-ups on all three. Using the troubleshooter at Mozilla.com led me to two add-ons (of the four or five that I had installed) that were known to leak memory. I’ve removed them, but am not sure yet whether the freezes have gone away.

What kind of proof would you have liked to see?

I’ve been using Firefox 2 on my MacBook Pro for about six hours. It’s crashed 3 times. As Gary said, what sort of “proof” are we supposed to provide?

[...] I’m not the only one who has seen this. [...]

I had problems too. I installed on 3 Windows XP machines, and on all 3 machines, it crashes every 4-5 hours of use. It’s just not very cool although the “restore session” function works alright. It happens mostly on sites with Flash/video/other embedded objects, but no real pattern. It crashes on one site and opens same site with no problems the next moment. I’m almost going back to version 1.x

I’m running Ubuntu Linux. I’ve been running firefox for 15 minutes this morning and it’s crashed 3 times. I googled ‘firefox unstable’ and found this forum. Version 1.5.x never gave me ANY trouble on this or any other operating system. Proof enough for me!

Thank goodness, I thought it was just me. I never had problems with Firefox 1.5 but 2 is constantly causing problems. I’m on an iMac. Anyone know a fix?

I keep getting this problem on certain sites, such as Myspace.com. As Simon said, it seems to randomly happen on pages with embedded objects. No real pattern.

Ugh. I have been a longtime fan of Firefox, even wear a shirt to the gym that says getfirefox.com. That said, My pIII 900MHz proc laptop just doesn’t seem to play well with the new 2.x version. The tabs have overlapping images. PDFs and sites with flash often lock the browser. Carts at Dell and other locations time out - I’ll be working in a site, and suddenly the next page opens in a new tab and says there is an error. Pop-up issues and Java issues seem to be part of it. I uninstalled 2.x and am now on 1.5.0.10. Very stable again.

I am on a MacBook Pro and my wife is on a Powerbook G4 and we both have noticed similar crashing and locking up problems as others have posted. I have also noticed that often the upper left hand yellow window button will not work to put the window in my dock. I have really enjoyed past version of firefox but I am getting irritated with version 2. I hope this problem gets fixed soon.
