Firefox Does Not Go Any Faster

I feel somewhat vindicated today. Why? Well after reading this post over at Windows Skills, I feel like the world makes a little more sense. I had never noticed any difference when installing these extensions or programs that were suppose to make Firefox faster. Turns out they might not do a thing.

There are many articles and tools which promise to increase your browsing speed. Well, I usually don’t like spending too much time on this but today I decided to try a small tool and show you the results. I’m sure the guys at TotalIdea did a good job looking for ways to improve our browsing speed if we use their freeware application so I didn’t spend more time looking for something else.

Read things over for yourself, leave your comments and let me know what you have to say on the subject. Can you really get Firefox to go any faster that it already does?

Change or Disable Tab Overflow

It seems like with Firefox’s tab overflow features that were released in Firefox 2, people either love it, hate it or want to change it. Now I have had several E-mails sent to me looking for the best way to get at least two of those done of those done. (Not really sure if I could help you love it.) Luckily for you and me I have found a guide that will help you do just that.

Some folks, including myself do not like the tab overflow feature that was added to Firefox 2. For those of you who are not familiar with this feature when the width (in pixels) of the tabs becomes less than set amount (default is 100 pixels) Firefox will add scroll buttons to each end of the tab bar (see sample here). The purpose of this feature was so that all the tabs open will have a minimum width of 100 pixels. At 100 pixels the tabs are still relatively readable.

Exciting News for Firefox 3 Release

With Firefox 2 just out the door, the folks at Mozilla are already making headway with Firefox 3. Now for those of you who might not be able to do the math, Firefox 3 will be the next version of Firefox that is released. One of the biggest ‘bits of news to come out of developement is that Firefox 3 will pass the Acid2 test.

The first development release of Firefox 3, code name Gran Paradiso, is now available for testing, and against what I previously thought this release actually matters.

It happens that the main improvement here is not to the Firefox user interface or functionality but to the underlying Gecko rendering engine, responsible for proper presentation of web documents in Firefox, Thunderbird, NVU, Sunbird, Netscape, Flock and a number of other Gecko based products.

MySpace Hacks

Now when it comes to MySpace, general navigation is usually thrown out the window. Well, that is before you see the huge “I want to be a gangster” images and bouncing hearts all over the place.

If you want to gain some control back when it comes to viewing MySpace profiles (and you have Greasemonkey) I would suggest picking up the MySpaceHax user script.

This allows you to have a neat menu on the right over every profile that gives you quick access to: Add, Add to Group, Block, Blog, View Comments, View Pictures and View Groups. This is the Greasemonkey script that every MySpace addict needs to pick up to make MySpace kind of usable.

Aluminium Kai 2 Theme for Firefox

Aluminium Kai 2Now the whole Aluminium Kai theme was never one that I really liked much. Personally I would take a simple and clean layout over one like this any day. There has to be people out there that like it though, because I keep seeing it mentioned all over the place.

Now I guess it is not all that bad. If you are going to force me to say something nice about it, I like the color green? Yeah, that is all I got.

Europeans Like Firefox Too?

Well it turns out our neighbors over the ocean like using Firefox as well. Europeans enjoy the perks of having a better browser. Who would have ever guessed that one?

A report from the French firm Xiti Monitor shows the growth of Firefox in Europe, including this pretty map showing over a third of Germans, Poles and Slovenians are Firefox users, along with healthy dollops of people in the rest of Europe.

Le Breeze

Le BreezeJust like Whitehart, here is another simple theme that anybody could use. Personally I don’t like for the browser to get in the way of the content – so with a theme like that, you have nothing to worry about. It is simple and to the point, and does not distract you with a bunch of wacky colors and flashing lights.

WhitehartWhen you want a simple, small and to the point Firefox theme – you want Whitehart. Now from the name it reminds me of some brave knight that would go slay a dragon or two.
