Mozilla Eyes China

Anybody worth his weight in Firefox extensions knows that if you can get a hold of the China market, you can make a big leap in the world market place. I am happy to see the Mozilla folks are doing what they are doing.

Mozilla.org, which makes Firefox, the most popular Web browser alternative to Microsoft Corp.’s Internet Explorer, is setting up a China office to do battle in the world’s second-largest Web market.

California-based Mozilla already has a presence in China via a not-for-profit Foundation supporting open-source software projects, but the Beijing office will be its first real corporate presence, Mozilla Chief Operating Officer John Lilly said on Friday.

Filter Your Web With Firefox

Need a different way to filter the Web you use? If you want to block certain types of Web sites, this Firefox extension might be the way to go.

Personal content filter based on user-defined preferences such as keywords, filtering sensitivity settings and URL exceptions. Password protected (default password is “foxfilter”).

Yet another interesting way of filtering content for your Firefox browser. The one feature I really like is the blocking by keyword. That is really neat, and have not seen it in too many other downloads like this.

Turn Off Snap Thumbnail Previews

Often mistaken as ads, Snap’s obnoxious link previews are quickly becoming something you either really love or really hate. Well now you have the option to opt in or opt out of having them on the Web sites you visit.

All you need to do is visit this section of their FAQ and click a link. Disabling this on your own browser places a cookie on your system, but if you want a quick fix – this will do nicely. No extensions needed.

Really this should work – no matter what browser you are running. Since it is a nice tip though, I figured all the Firefox Facts fans should know about it.

Baby Blue for Firefox 2

Want another cute and kind of girlie theme for Firefox? Well, from the creators of Pink Paula comes Baby Blue! Now unlike Pink Paula, Baby Blue is a theme I think I could see myself using.

It doesn’t make me feel like I should grow a set of boobs before I can use it. (Yeah, saying that is just asking for hate mail – I know!) It is nice, clean and cute. Everything I look for in a Firefox theme.

Turn Off Session Restore Window

Want to know how to turn off that annoying “session restore” window that you get when Firefox tries to start back up from a crash? Ok, maybe annoying is a little harsh. A lot of people like the window, and a lot of people don’t like it. Who am I to judge?

If you find yourself in the camp with the annoyed folks, this is what you do:

1. type about:config in your browser URL
2. go to the browser.sessionstore.enabled setting
3. change the setting to false

There you go! All fixed now. Thanks to the scott.hodson.blog for the source of this information, and Philip for sending me the link.

Useless Browser Stats

Are you turned on by a hot girl who can tell you exactly how much data is currently loaded up in that browser of yours? Well, I can’t deliver on the hot girl – but I can give you a cool extension that gives you a lot of useless stats.

The Browser Statistics extension for Firefox will let you know the following:

- data currently loaded (KBytes)
- total data loaded (KBytes/MBytes) since last start of the browser
- number of visited pages

I am sure there might be a reason for knowing all of this, but I can’t really think of any that sound impressive. You’ll just become that annoying guy that sits at the dinner table and says, “Hey, you know how many megabytes I downloaded this morning Honey?”.
