First Look at Firefox 3

New Bookmarks?

There have been a lot of blogs a buzzin’ about some of the new Firefox 3 screenshots that have made their way to the Web. Here are a few notes about them from the Wired blog.

Firefox Alpha 5 arrived last Friday, bringing with it the first look at Places, the new bookmark management system. But the Firefox team has a number of additional UI tweaks up their sleeve and some of them look quite slick.

Personally I think things look slick thus far - and I might have to change my browsing habits yet again when this thing is ready for public use. How about you - are you excited about Firefox 3 or is the current Firefox 2 version keeping you happy for now?

Alpha 5 has not been released yet but it will be very similar to the trunk as it is right now.

My favorite Firefox 3 features: save as PDF, offline web applications support, microformats, improvements to the download manager which will hopefully include resume between sessions.

Nothing in FF3 should really impress users right now. But in a near future, as more web apps add offline support (Gmail, Yahoo Mail, WordPress among my favorites), web developers and CMSs add microformats support, we’ll turn back and see FF2 and contemporary browsers as we could now see a JavaScript-less, Flass-less, Netscape 2 or so. It’s about progress.
