Auto-Expanding Tabs

Don’t you hate it when you have so many tabs open you can’t see what exactly is open? Well with the FishEyeTab extension for Firefox, you can kiss those days goodbye. This extension auto-expands your tabs when you hover over one with your mouse.

FishEyeTabs

An alternative to scrolling when there are many open tabs, and they become too small to see. User can zoom tab labels by moving the mouse cursor over them. Fisheye zoom is activated only when tabs occupy the whole width of the window. Close button moved to right FF 1.0 - style.

This cool animation makes it quick and easy to see which tab is which. You also don’t sacrifice much tab toolbar space either.

It takes away the little close boxes on each tab in FF 2.0.0.6. Sad!

Yeah, that is a side effect I noticed. Hopefully in the future there will be a way to keep or exclude the close tab buttons.

This makes me think of an extension that would be very handy: an auto-resizer for tabs!

For example, when the text of a tab is shorten than the maximum tab width, there is some empty space on that tab. Why not cut that off? The tab could then be just long enough to read the text on it, and still be easy to click. Do you know of any such extension? If so, please blog about it. Thanks in advance.
