Give Firefox 3 Firefox 2′s Address Bar

Today I saw my first Firefox 3 extension that bring back “classic” features of Firefox 2. It was only a matter of time before some of these started to pop up and I have a feeling that many more may be on their way.

The oldbar addon replaces Firefox 3′s new address bar with the one that you are used to now in Firefox 2. Here is the new Firefox 3 address bar (or otherwise known as the location bar):

firefox-3-location-bar

Then here is the classic one you will get with this Firefox 3 extension:

1-1

You can pick up the oldbar extension over at the Mozilla addons web site.

    I didn’t like this feature. :S
    at all.. lol!

Big Thanks, downloaded Firefox 3 10 min ago and already started looking for simplified address bar :)

Ugh – the new “awsomebar” is crap for people who are used to navigating by typing part of the URL – something I do hundreds of times every day.

Changing the zoom default also sucks, IMO.

It almost seems like FireFox is trying to drive users away.

With this addon you can go back to FF2 Address bar / Location bar.
Not only in aspect but also in functionality!!!

    :-D :-D

this bar sucks… i search a lot of porno and everytime i click the dropdown arrow, the urls are there!

  6. Rohan Shenoy Jun 21, 2008 at 1:08 pm #

I don’t like that new address bar at all, it a mess to find the links. Besides it does take some time. Thanks a lot for letting us know about that addon!

  7. PH Jun 21, 2008 at 7:02 pm #

This is a welcomed extension, but this nor OldBar give us the scrollbar and can show only 12 recent visited links. FF2 was able to show more links and had a scrollbar to use and scroll through them. It’s annoying that it wipes out always one link when you type in a new one exceeding 12 already shown.

  8. PH Jun 21, 2008 at 7:04 pm #

Sorry, meant to say “….this nor Old Location Bar….”

  9. Not A Luddite Jun 24, 2008 at 3:49 am #

Thank you for this plugin. I downloaded Firefox 3 yesterday and immediately hated the new location bar. I even reverted to FF2 on my laptop because I hated it so much. Now I can have the best of both worlds.

  10. Tony Jun 24, 2008 at 1:02 pm #

Now, if only someone would update the old View Source Chart (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/655) to work with FF3…

  11. Max Jul 10, 2008 at 7:32 am #

*lol*. Downloaded Firefox 3 and the new Address Bar disturbed me so bad that I downloaded & installed the extension within 3 minutes. Great Job you guys out there.

  12. Shawn Aug 04, 2008 at 12:45 pm #

Thank you so much for this. I absolutely hated the new address bar. Looks like not too many other poeple like it either.

I was strongly considering reverting to FF2, but luckily I decided to google “change firefox 3 address bar”.

    Thanks!

  13. BIllybob Aug 12, 2008 at 4:37 am #

hate the new URL address bar, so glad this is here.

  14. BIllybob Aug 12, 2008 at 4:42 am #

Hmmm, not quite guys, it wants to do a stupid near match search as well, so if I type in “log” to get to a page address that starts “log…” it still brings up addresses where lo appear anywhere together in the URL, considering a roll back i hate it this much…

  15. BIllybob Aug 12, 2008 at 4:43 am #

meant to be …where “lo” appear…

    Can’t edit comment

  16. Billybob Aug 12, 2008 at 5:30 am #

Gone, got rid of it. back to ff2. The add-on doesn’t work the way I want it to and for some reason most of the pages on an on line newspaper I visit most often doesn’t scroll properly using the up and down arrow.
    Hated it!

  17. Jack Aug 26, 2008 at 7:29 am #

I uninstalled Firefox 3 because of this stupid location bar “feature”.

I’m very disappointed with firefox, I think this is the last intercourse I’ll ever have with Firefox.

  18. Tony Aug 26, 2008 at 9:46 am #

The history is horribly munged, too. I used to be able to have my history separated by day (1 day ago, 2 days ago, etc), which simplified looking for things. Now, it’s all one big list, which makes it harder to find, and instead of keeping the ACTUAL history, it only notes the LAST visit to a page – so clicking on a history item causes the list to reshuffle.

And even with this extension, I can’t just punch in the URL of a site I’ve visited, unless I entered the URL the first time. So as helpful as the authors are trying to be, FF3′s behavior just doesn’t work right for me anymore.

  19. stacy Aug 28, 2008 at 1:36 pm #

it says i have to log in to get this, like i know what my user id and pass for mozilla is heh.

  20. Bill Sep 05, 2008 at 3:08 pm #

Tried this add on and it didn’t work for me. I was a believer in Firefox until this mess. Will try to first revert back to Firefox 2, and if that fails, then I guess I’ll be using Chrome or Opera instead.

I hate hate HATE the new ‘awesomebar’
I routinely get to frequent sites by typing part of the url, for example:

    en.wikipedia.org. ..

but now, the first link that comes up is SFGate, because it has ‘ENtertainment’ in the page title

    ARGH!!!

  22. Greg Sep 10, 2008 at 10:59 pm #

Completely agree that the bar CRAP – how many complaints until the experimental add on will be released?

  23. billybob Sep 11, 2008 at 4:38 pm #

Not Quite Greg, because it does not behave the way the old bar used to (see my earlier comments). If FF do not sort this out and they stop supporting FF2 like they have threatened to do then for me it is goodbye FF for good.

  24. billybob Sep 11, 2008 at 4:39 pm #

Which is a shame because the zoom text thing is great for people with really big monitors with big screen resolutions…

  25. rance Sep 12, 2008 at 4:02 am #

wtv. the next firefox “feature” features=suck
will be push 20 buttons, first 4 buttons within one second, no later. next six buttons within second 2 no later, no earlier, 6 buttons in second 3 no later, no earlier, and 4 buttons in second 4, no later, no earlier, push your mouse buttons left right left right to access the address bar. thats sucks so bad.
firefox sucks. its like their taking everyones annoyances, with stuff. stuff thats old such as oh someones gonna find i went to so and so porno site, when theirs a clear history button, that they make stupid crap like this. their history is completely messed up. its as if i took all the files on my hardrive and threw them all in one folder. hows that sorting. hows that any way useful. its not. this sucks. ill find another browser if firefox keeps this up. and what the crap is the deal with about:config? is their a warranty? do i get my money back. do they decide on a price this is worth. if it crashes my computer, and stalls their pile of crap software, do they think they have some sort of anything. wheres my money cause i think this sucks. and it does.

  26. Awesome bar suck Sep 19, 2008 at 4:54 am #

Crappiest awesome bar on the planet. Please give back urlbar from FF2!

  27. Jennifer Oct 01, 2008 at 1:11 pm #

Thank goodness for this! I HATE the new FF3 addressbar. I started using Safari again because I couldn’t stand it. Maybe this will make me start using FF again!

  28. Brett Oct 03, 2008 at 3:15 pm #

No more downloading ‘upgrades’ to firefox here; I’ve got my browser set to clear history, and it seems every recent upgrade defeats that in some way or other. Is that deliberate? I’m beginning to think so.

  29. Brett Oct 03, 2008 at 3:19 pm #

I should add, it even brought back sites I hadn’t visited in months. I’m disturbed that, after repeatedly clearing history, that’s even stored somewhere on my system to revive.

  30. xabhijitx Oct 21, 2008 at 9:16 am #

Crappiest Address bar ever made by human beings. Firefox 3 has created history! See it in a positive way! lol…

  31. duffman Dec 09, 2008 at 7:20 am #

if you want to change the number of entries the address bar shows, goto about:config, and change browser.urlbar.maxRichResults from 12 to whatever you want

Howdy. Excellent theme you’ve got here. I’m trying to find a new theme for my blog – where did you get this template? is it free or premium? Many thanks.
