Firefox 3 is Best of the Betas?

In a comparison with Internet Explorer 8, Safari, and Opera 9.5 I think Firefox 3 so far wins hands down.  To get a better idea of what you can expect though from the next generation of browsers, Cnet has put up a nice round up of all the latest for you to browse through and see what you like and hate about each.

The section on how it compares to the others was the most enlightening of all:

Firefox remains the best browser on the whole, with great features, impressive improvements all-round, a revised bookmarking system and thousands of add-ons to make it easy to perfectly customise.

The improvements in performance are stellar, it’s got some well-integrated features than everyone will use (resumable download manager, tag-ready bookmarking) and it offers, overall, a better, richer Web experience. We’re behind Firefox and we hope that when the final release is out it’ll be just that little bit better to boot.

More great news for the Mozilla crew!  Is there something the other browsers are getting or doing that you wish Firefox 3 would try to do too?

I was a devoted Opera fan for a long time because it had features that nobody else had. I lived through constant crashes and sites not working with it because I loved the mouse gestures, the smart tab system, the search options from the address bar, the speed dial, and a host of other great features.

Then I discovered that Firefox, which is the browser I used to go to sites that are not Opera-supported, has add-ons or similar features to cover everything that Opera can do, and to cover them even better. Now I'm a devoted Firefox fan, and besides decreasing the amount of memory consumed (which it sounds like the new release will do), I can't think of much I want to see added, although ACR sounds pretty cool.
  • Firefox 3 is ready to take all the other little browser-wannabe by the collar and tell them what it means to be a good browser... My favorites are improved performance and system integration, but that's just me. Other people will find the new features exceedingly attractive, for example... I don't use them that much when compared to all the features brought in by the extensions I use, but to people who are less familiar with those, Fx3 is a sweet piece of software...
