There are a number of add-ons for Firefox that clone Opera’s Speed Dial feature. There is one add-on with a different twist. Most open your tabs in this fashion, but Fast Dial does something different.
This extension will replace your “about:blank” page with a panel of thumbnails of your favorite web sites. To add sites to the page, all you do is click on an empty cell, assign a URL and click OK.
You can also add sites by right-clicking on the bookmark for them and selecting “Add to Fast Dial”. (you can do this on open tabs too!)
Where does this come in handy? Well let us say you are hitting Ctrl+T to open a new window. You are no longer greeted by an empty window. Instead you have a window with your own personal favorites list inside. Fast Dial is a unique bookmarking extension that I think a lot of people will get a lot of use out of.
Why does no website ever care about Speed Dial which is in my opinion better and I think it was out first.
I swear by fast dial! I had speed dial first, but fast dial is better in my opinion. It is better looking, more customizable, and the biggest benefit is that you can decide how many bookmarks you want. 9 is not enough for me.
Also, it let’s you use Alt+[1,9] to access your first 9 bookmars, very handy :)
I agree with Christopher. I’ve tried both and found Speed Dial to be much better.
Also, to Braden…where do you get 9 from? In Speed Dial you can select however many rows and columns of thumbnails you’d like. You can also create groups, which will look like mini tabs.
Maybe you should check it out again. You may not have checked out all the features. Speed Dial is extremely customizable.
I’m a new user to Firefox, and came across this great add-on and was straight away hooked. I’ll be sticking with this one for sure!
