The Secret of a Good Dark Theme for Firefox

heavencube I have said before, there are not many dark Firefox themes that I like that much.  Maybe I’m just too happy to enjoy the lights being turned out in the browser.  Heaven.Cube, a new theme for Firefox 3, might change my mind.  It has style.  It has darkness.  Best of all, (here is the secret!) it is very unique.

After using it for a while, you’ll get the feeling that your browser is almost glowing.  All the icons are shinny and bright.  Putting that against the dark background really makes them look good.  As far as what I’d like to see in the future, I could see all kinds of various colors being released (personally, I’d like to see a dark green and black one).

The problem with dark themes, whatever well crafted they may be (and Heaven.Cube does look attractive), is the way they handle other extensions' icons. Firefox icons are often well taken care of (they "sign" the theme), but when it comes to the other icons they just become unreadable very often. I remember back in Firefox 1.5 days (gosh, seems an eternity) of one theme in particular which handled all icons alike (resizing them in a square button), but that is an exception. So the result, with many icons, is a display which appears unbalanced. That is also why I tend to stick on light themes.

Very nice find, I like it. Blends in nicely with an OS like Vista.
