Google Toolbar Give us Chrome’s Thumbnails

Want to get Chrome’s thumbnail preview page when you open a new tab in Firefox?

Google has ported one of Chrome’s most popular features to Firefox, the personalized new tab screen.  The only catch is that you have to use the Google Toolbar to get it.  Your new tab page looks exactly like Chrome’s after the install of the Google Toolbar 5 Beta.

Chrome's New Tab Screen in Firefox

When do you get this fantastic new edition?  This happens when you launch a new tab( hit Ctrl+T, or you double click on the empty space to the right of your tabs).  You can check out all the other features of the Google Toolbar Beta 5 on the official web site:

I stopped using Google Toolbar myself once the search box was added to most browsers.  I mean, why do I need two search boxes in one browser window?  That is a post for another day though.  However if you want to check out this new ported over feature – be sure to pick up the beta off Google’s web site.

  • I always install Google Toolbar because the toolbar displays the search-terms in the toolbar as hyperlinks. When you click the search-term it searches for the next occurrence of the word in the document. Really very handy!
  • Version 7.2.6 and earlier worked amazingly well. I didn't realize how much I used the feature in opera. I'd set it as my home page and as the content of all new tabs, before 0.7.2.11 rolled out..I've disabled it for now. I'll either uninstall and go back a version, or just leave it off altogether till a newer option comes out.
  • Do a google search folks :-)

This was part of Opera well before it was part of Chrome.

You could just replace firefox's built in search bar with googles bar - which is what i do and then close the google toolbar to reduce all the clutter.

Is unfortunate about TabMixPlus though - hopefully an update will be available soon.

Sadly this don't work with TasbMixPlus. :(
  • Aha! That's the straw; I won't be using that :-)
  • Since Fierfox knows your most visited sites, I wish someone could create the same functionality without having to install the Google toolbar.
