Microsoft to Share Firefox Facts?

So that you end your week with something really amusing, I had to share this story I found at CyberNet as it concerns Microsoft’s new browser comparison or “fact” sheet.

Microsoft Facts about IE8

So we are to believe that Firefox and Chrome are both insecure, difficult to use, and unreliable?  The Internet Explorer team might want to check their calendars, because last time I checked – it is June 26th, not April 1st

If that isn’t enough – they also have a MythBusting page.  What is your favorite “fact” they are claiming?

  • Oops, comments ate my code (way to escape out pasted HTML!)... I posted the snippet in question here: http://gist.github.com/136674
  • Oh it's web standards compliant is it? then why does that page need this:

    <!--[if gte IE 8]>-->
  • One word - HA!

As funny as the fact chart is, my favorite is on the myth busting page. It says
"Myth #3: Firefox is a richer, more adaptable browser than Internet Explorer."

The "truth" is that "Internet Explorer 8 has much more functionality than other browsers.... Did you know that there are more than 1,700 Internet Explorer 8 add-ons available at the Add-ons Gallery"

I knew this wasn't true, so I went to the Firefox addons site to find out how many they have, and I found this:

    "153,906,262 [individual] add-ons in use"

    Explain that, Microsoft!

It's intentionally misleading citations like Christopher's that really piss me off.

    It actually reads:

"Internet Explorer 8 has much more functionality than other browsers, and its functionality is there from the moment you open the browser."

Then in a completely separate paragraph it reads:

"Did you know that there are more than 1,700 Internet Explorer 8 add-ons available at the Add-ons Gallery, with more being added every day?"

Nice job changing the context, Christopher. You wouldn't also be one of those people that can somehow quote the bible in a like manner to prove how it says to beat up gay people and to rape women would you?

WEB STANDARDS... WEB STANDARDS! How can they claim to be the best? I am a devoted FireFox user and Web Developer and i can safley say that Opera has the best web standards! What are they comparing the compliancy to? IE6? Dont make me laugh. All the features the new IE8 has have been stolen from one browser or another, they are way behind. Tabs = Copied, Domain highlighting = Copied, Crash Control = Copied, Independent tabs = Copied. And the list goes on!

And the fact that it blocks more malware.... THAT IS BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY HOLES IN IE AND LESS IN ANY OTHER BROWSER THAT YOU HAVE TI TRY EXTRA HARD TO BLOCK IT WHEN IT! Most that malware dosent effect other browsers!

If you ask me you should bust ALL theese myths, it wont be hard cos they are all a bag of crap!
  • haha really?!
íts so laughable that i cant say nothing rational or obvious :)
  • "Web Standards" :D what a joke!

The new compatibility mode is fun :) I can see same site broken in 2 different ways.
