The word on the street, and by street I mean various online news sources, is that Firefox 3.5 is set to be released tomorrow, June 30th. Version 3.5, codename “Shiretoko”, does bring a lot of new neat features to the browsing platform.
My personal favorite feature I have seen thus far, that shows the most innovation is the support for embeddable video, without the use of any plugins or third party scripts. This multimedia embedding functionality of HTML 5 may not be widely used yet, however this does give it a proverbial first kick in the pants to take off and become successful.
Of course, I wouldn’t be doing the Firefox 3.5 project justice if I didn’t mention the speed boost too. However, I’m not really sure that is something real users will notice. Maybe it is just me but Firefox 3 for me right now is still pretty darn fast. You can check out a full list of features via Mozilla’s web site:
Seems like this time around Firefox’s newest release has either sneaked up on me, or perhaps isn’t getting as much coverage as the last. What do you think? Are you excited yet?

Finally.
How many years were since 3.1 was announced?
They should have name it Firefox 4 instead of 3.5

I hope it’s released tomorrow! All the preliminary hype has been frustrating, especially when they don’t provide a launch date. It’s sort of like seeing ads for a heavily promoted blockbuster movie that just say “coming soon…one of these days!”. I know I can download the beta version, but I like to wait for the final finished product.

erm, I think you’ll find it’s Namoroka
Is this goping to be a an automatic update or do we have to download ourselves? Either way I am looking forward to the next best thing.
Sorry, I am wrong stating 3.5 would be Namoroka, it will indeed be Shiretoko.
Shiretoko is the work development platform for any future improvements and version changes to the new 3.5, released later today woot woot!
Namoroka is the work platform leading up to the next major change of version for Firefox (I’m guessing at ver 4.0 based on recent events). It will be known as 3.6 and/or firefox.next (for the time being anyway).
Apologies,
Keith
@Larry
It will be an auto update. From what I read in a blog from Mozilla (can’t remember who’s) it should be available from 11.50am LA time, 7.50pm UK time.
I downloaded the new Firefox 3.5 today…. now my laptop keeps shutting down while I’m browsing or trying to watch a video !! This wasn’t happening with previous version I had been using…. but now with no warning or overheating problems of my laptop… it just shuts down !! I love the previous version because of faster browsing, uploading and downloading than IE !!
Satisfied with Firefox…. just trying to figure out why new version keep!!
Help me, Please !! Hermitbiker
