Firefox 3.7 First Screenshots Maybe?

With Firefox 3.5 out the door, the Mozilla guys are hard at work brainstorming around what Firefox 3.7 might look like.  To help with the brainstorming, they have released a few mock-up screenshots of what Firefox 3.7 might look like.  There has been nothing finalized thus far, but it is still fun to check out and see what they have in mind for the next big design refresh of our favorite browser.

Firefox 3.7 Mock Screenshot

  1. Embracing Glass: Toolbar and Tabs using Glass. Buttons translucent and slightly glossy to meld with the toolbar. Raised 3D lookachieve tactile "feel".
  2. Page Button: Connect the Page button to the left side of the tab area. Directly connected to the Page.
  3. Tools/Bookmark Bar: Connecting the Tools button to the side of the Window to emphasize the fact that it is used for customizing and changing the UI. Adding a button next to that to toggle the Bookmarks Bar which is turned off by default.

What do you think thus far?  I kind of like the idea of removing the menu bar, as long as all the important aspects are still easily reached (maybe via “tools”).  However, not sure if I want everything to be as see-through as it is in the example.  Here are two more screenshots:

Mozilla has released a few new screenshots of their latest Firefox 3.7 theme and interface revisions.  I’m happy to see the bookmark toolbar is back, and the loading bar on top of the tabs is a very interesting idea.  Here

By design, Firefox is pretty easy to customize as far as the toolbars on the top go. You just have to right click on some empty space up there, then choose “Customize”. From there you can drag things

I realy like the Firevox Revamp XP Silver !!
Very good work to use the free space right from the "Help"
  • There's also a hack (courtesy of DLS) for skinning up your Firefox 3.0/3.5 installation to look like the mockups. Writeup available here:

  • I'm going to have to say that I don't like the idea of removing the menu bar. But now that I think about it, it might be kind of nice to take the menus (File, Bookmarks, Tools) and make them available as sub menus under one menu, accessible from the "Tools" button.

And I agree, I don't like the idea of the browser being as transparent as possible. It might be a bit confusing for some users, and I personally think it just doesn't look as good.

    What about XP Zune theme????

Don't like the look of the buttons on XP.
  • I like it... but I'll never get to try it. KDE users on Linux suffer royally because Firefox tries to look and act like a native GNOME application and the GNOME human interface guidelines and standard dialogs are painful.

(We don't even get the distinctive "keyhole" buttons without installing either the "XP on Vista" or "Vista on XP" themes)

How do you get Google Chrome? it sounds like somthing i would like if it is simpler

It looks an awful lot like the Google Chrome interface. I guess if you can't beat, join 'em.

I don't know why anybody would even use Firefox at this point because Google Chrome is so much faster. And that's saying a lot from me who has always been a huge proponent of Firefox.

To me, it just got too bloated. I prefer Chrome's "less is more" approach. And the difference in speed is astronomical.

Love the new look if this is real. I have felt the FF design was getting a little stale/boring so these are some nice changes. I like how they are taking a page from Chrome's book to implement the toolbar buttons for options and such on the right of the search bar. Ready to see this in action.
