Add a Dislike Button to Facebook

Adding Dislike to Facebook You can “like” things on Facebook, so why can you not “dislike” things too? If you use Facebook, and you have Firefox – you can now add the feature some have really been wanting. You get the ability to dislike things that your friends have posted.  These two add-ons (pick the one you like most) will get the job done.

Facebook Dislike – This is an extension for all the pro-dislike Facebook groups out there.  After installing, you can dislike posts, and each time you do, the author of the extension keep track of it for everybody.  So this way, if somebody else installs the add-on, they too can see all the stories that have been disliked.

Facebook Dislike Button – Now why feature two add-ons that do the same job?  Well with this add-on, a comment will also be posted on your friend’s page on your behalf notifying them that you disliked the story using the dislike button. 

While Facebook themselves mull over the idea of adding this to the user interface, you can add this functionality to your Facebook page here and now. 

Just do me a favor and don’t dislike me!

Add Pinning Tabs Feature to Firefox

Pin Tabs in Firefox One of the cool Google Chrome browser features is the ability to pin tabs in the browser by default.

Pinned tabs are shifted to the left side of the tab bar where their tab will be changed to just show the favicon for the web site in question. Thanks to the Pin Tab add-on for Firefox, you can bring that functionality to your favorite browser.

Another neat feature of this Firefox add-on is when you type something in the address bar, or select a result in the address bar while a pinned tab is selected, the address you selected will open in a new tab – leaving your pinned tab alone.

How do you pin a tab?

You can also pin a tab by dragging it to the left of already pinned tabs.

Get more control over your tabbed browsing experience in Firefox with Tabberwocky. This add-on for the browser will give you dozens upon dozens of ways to customize the way you work with tabs. 

Some of the features of this Firefox extension include:

  • Open in new tabs from Bookmarks, History, URL Bar, and/or Search Bar
  • Open Selected Links in New Tabs
  • Retain tab history when opening links in new tabs
  • Show/Hide New Tab button and Close Tab buttons
  • Highlight unread tabs
  • Set minimum/maximum tab width
  • Close tabs by double-clicking on them
  • Tab clicking options

Plus many more.  It would take me four or five posts to go into all the control this Firefox add-on gives to your tabs. You can pick up Tabberwocky over at the Firefox Add-ons web site.  (kudos to Lifehacker)  It will give you more tabbed browsing controls than you can shake a… well, than you can shake a tab at.

How to Download Facebook Videos

Thanks to a popular Greasemonkey script turned Firefox add-on you can now rip videos from Facebook to watch whenever and where ever you want to. The simply named Facebook Video add-on for Firefox will help you get the job done.

How Does It Work?

This extension adds the functionality to download, convert or embed videos posted on Facebook.  When you click the download video link, the video will open as a .mp4 file.  You can then select, “Save Page As” from the File option in your menu bar to choose where to save the file on your PC.

The convert video link will take the video to the Zamzar free file conversion web site, where you can convert the file to .flv, .wmv, .avi, or the audio formats .mp3, .flac, or .wav. 

Start Downloading Facebook Videos! – You can pick up the Facebook Video add-on from the Firefox Add-ons web site.  So there you have it, now you can grab those Facebook videos you have been wanting to save to watch later.  (Kudos goes to ZeroPaid.com for finding this tip!)

Teeny Tiny Stratini Theme for Firefox

Today we have the Teeny-tiny Stratini-Stripe Point Nine theme for Firefox. Yes, go ahead and take a minute to say that out loud, I promise it is as fan as it looks.  This fantastic theme takes the classic winstripe look and feel and gives it the clean Stratini presentation.

Here is a little more about the Firefox theme from the developer:

The icons and style are mostly taken directly from Firefox 0.9 Winstripe and Pinstripe for Mac, both designed by Kevin Gerich and Stephen Horlander. This is my absolute favorite Firefox theme, and I am not planning on porting others into Stratini. The code is all based on Stratini so Stratini-Stripe 0.9 includes all of the Stratini features such as tiny Teeny Mode, miniature bookmarks, rotating Reload button, highlighted text input boxes, and encryption coloring in the urlbar.

This adds one more unique member to the Stratini family of themes, have you collected them all?

For those of you out there who love the FoxyProxy add-on for Firefox, you now have two different flavors to choose from.  If you need just a simple on and off proxy switcher, Grab the new FoxyProxy Basic.  If you would rather have all the bells and whistles, those are preserved in what is now being called FoxyProxy Standard.

First things first, what does this thing promise to do?  FoxyProxy is a Firefox add-on which switches an internet connection automatically across one or more proxy servers based on URL patterns. The extension automates the manual process of editing Firefox’s Connection Settings dialog. Proxy server switching occurs based on the loading URL and the switching rules you define.

So, now the question is – which one is best for you?

Want to help your good friends at Mozilla do a little add-on testing?

Does you Firefox add-on need updating?

It takes a lot of work to see if add-ons still work or not, so you can do your part by installing the Add-on Compatibility Reporter.  Help the Firefox team make sure your favorite add-ons get updated for upcoming Firefox releases with this tool. 

Here is a little more about the add-on from the Mozilla team:

After installing the Add-on Compatibility Reporter, your incompatible extensions will become enabled for you to test whether they still work with the version of Firefox or Thunderbird that you’re using. If you notice that one of your add-ons doesn’t seem to be working the same way it did in previous versions of the application, just open the Add-ons Manager and click Compatibility next to that add-on to send a report to Mozilla.

Also worth mentioning is that Mozilla only recommends this add-on for alpha and beta users only. So if you like to stay on the cutting edge, this add-on is for you. You can pick up the Add-on Compatibility Reporter on the Firefox Add-ons web site.

Raindrop Makes Communication Easier to Manage

Raindrop - Mozilla's Perfect Messanger?

Over the weekend I started checking out the newest project out of the Mozilla Labs, Raindrop.  To some it might sound a little like Google Wave – however it offers much more, and is also much easier to wrap your mind around. 

Here is more about the program, in a nutshell, from the developers:

When a friend’s link from YouTube or flickr arrives, your messaging client should be able to show the video or photos near or as part of the message, rather than rudely kicking you over to a separate browser tab. Notifications from computers and mailing lists should be organized for you, not clutter your Inbox or require tedious manual filter setup. It should be easy to smoothly integrate new web services into your conversation viewer entirely using open web technologies.

I am all about the “making things easier to manage” so I eagerly anticipate learning more about what Mozilla has planned for this service.  If you want to learn more about the fundamentals of Raindrop, watch this video:
