Firefox 3.0 Has to Rest in Peace

No More Firefox 3.0

There will be no more updates for Firefox 3.0.x anymore, so if you haven’t upgraded to Firefox 3.6 – you had better hurry up and do so.  That was the official word from Mozilla on the topic in a recent meeting.

Now this might disappoint a handful of users out there, but it is nice to see Mozilla being more future focused – looking to get upgrades and updates out faster to the most recent Firefox versions.

Firefox 3.0 will be looked back upon with great admiration.  It was the version of Firefox that set the Guinness world record for downloads in a 24-hour period, after all.

So now the question is – are you still using Firefox 3.0, and if the answer is yes, let us know “why” in the comments.

    The slogan of Internet Explorer 6 being buried sounded so nice that now it's applied to Firefox 3.0 :) Who's next, doc ?!

    I'm actually not using FF that much anymore. I still have it because Adobe Reader 9 has compatibility issues with google chrome, and PDFs won't display at all in the browser. Chrome just opens so much faster than FF, even in the first minute or two of booting windows when it's almost impossible to start any program at all.
  • I'm still on Firefox 3.5 because it's too much hassle to fight with 3.6 to get my default and webdev profiles working properly and because what I really care about is the chrome performance improvements promised for 4.0.

    When you've tried something as snappy as Chrome, Firefox on Linux feels like WinXP on a 450Mhz box with 128MB of RAM.

    As for getting my profiles working, given how tired I'm getting of this upgrade dance, lets' hope Jetpack isn't the only case of admitting design mistakes. (It's idiotic to need a whole extension just for one little thing like making the scroll wheel switch tabs)

    Oh, and I probably won't be commenting much. I'm not very fond of Disqus's slightly condescending "You've disabled third-party cookies. You must be confused and we'll help you." message. (and their OpenID support doesn't work for me even with an explicit cookie exception made for disqus.com)

    @Phil
    IE Tab 2 is for you then:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/...

    It will also import your existing IE Tab settings.
