Google URL Shortener for Firefox

goo.gl Shorter Links

Google recently released an excellent web-based front end to the link shortening service they provide, but no Firefox add-on to compliment it.  Have no fear, because goo.gl lite is here.  This simple extension lets you shorten long URLs, using the goo.gl domain with just one click – and instantly copies the resulting URL to your clipboard for you.

Once you have goo.gl installed, all you need to do is customize your menu toolbar, and drag it onto your Firefox interface.  Once there, click the button and the link for the webpage you are currently viewing is shortened.  As an extra bonus, you even get a temporary popup at the top of the page saying that the link has been shortened too – which is a nice cosmetic feature.

Every link you shorten with this extension also shows up when you visit the goo.gl website.

goo.gl inteface

If you want to use the new goo.gl link shortening service, but also want an easy way to shrink links via a button in Firefox – then this is the perfect combination and solution to your problem.  You can download the goo.gl lite add-on for Firefox from the Firefox Add-ons website.

I installed the Firefox addon for the google shortener but when I use the bookmarklet – the link does not get added to my stats on the google shortner homepage. Do I need to do something to enable stats for the add on? Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately, when I use the google lite FF addon, It does not list those links in the Goo.gl analytics account. Do I need to change something in the settings? Any info will help…thanks!
