Firefox Printer Troubleshooting Help

Having problems printing in Firefox? It could be you just need to reset things to make them work as they once did.  With adding and removing add-ons, sometimes your settings can get tweaked.  Here are a few troubleshooting tips to try out.

Here is how you reset the Firefox printer setting:

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter.

    • The about:config “This might void your warranty!” warning page may appear. Click I’ll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
  2. In the Search field, type print_printer.
  3. Right-click on the print_printer setting and select Reset.
  4. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then select Exit

When you start Firefox again, try printing the page with which you had problems previously.

You can also reset all of Firefox’s printer settings too:

  1. Open your profile folder:

At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button, go over to the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information. The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.

  2. Under the Application Basics section, click on Show Folder. A window with your profile files will open.
  3. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then select Exit

  4. In your profile folder, copy the prefs.js file to another folder to make a backup of it.
  5. Open the original prefs.js file in a text editor (such as Wordpad).
  6. Remove all lines in prefs.js that start with print_ and save the file.

If something goes wrong when you open Firefox, close it again and overwrite prefs.js with the backup you made.
