Fast Dial – Quick Check Your Favorite Sites

There are a number of add-ons for Firefox that clone Opera’s Speed Dial feature.  There is one add-on with a different twist.  Most open your tabs in this fashion, but Fast Dial does something different.

This extension will replace your “about:blank” page with a panel of thumbnails of your favorite web sites.  To add sites to the page, all you do is click on an empty cell, assign a URL and click OK.
You can also add sites by right-clicking on the [...]

Foxmarks Gets the Bookmark Syncing Right

It took me a long time to give Foxmarks a second shot.  All I remember from the first time around I used it was I didn’t like it.  Seems as if it bugged me a lot or didn’t want to work.
Having given it a round two now, I am happy to say I have done so.
After the death of Google Browser Sync, I was looking for a new way to keep my bookmarks on my desktop and my bookmarks on [...]

Add Bookmarks Here 2

Where exactly would you like to put that bookmark?  If you’re in a hurry, and currently in the folder you need to bookmark a link in – you can pickup the Add Bookmark Here 2 add-on for Firefox to get the job done.
This extension adds a new menu item when you right-click any of your bookmark folders to allow you to bookmark your current web site you are viewing into that folder.  Here are a few more features to [...]

Change the Browser Icons with Favicon Picker 3

Favicon Picker used to be one of my favorite add-ons for Firefox, mainly because I am a ‘bit of a control freak and I like to be able to customize every single little thing about my browsing experience.  Yes, even down to the favicon image that is saved for my bookmarks.
For those of you unfamiliar with the extension, it adds an interface for replacing bookmark icons.  Just right-click on any bookmark, select “Properties”, then “Browse”. (Folder icons aren’t supported yet).
Here [...]

ScrapBook – Save Your Web Page Collections

It seems like I am always doing research on one thing or another, for a future article or a future project of mine.  There are not that many tools out there to help you collect your information and save it for later.  The ScrapBook extension for Firefox is one of the few.  It is simple and also allows to save web pages and organize them as you see fit.
Here are some of the features ScrapBook provides…

Making Your Smart Bookmarks Even Smarter

Over at CyberNet they have posted a great guide on how to create your own smart bookmarks. Smart bookmarks are the new feature to Firefox 3 that allow you to bring up your saved links in new, unique and useful ways. For example, you could browse through your most recently bookmarked links, your most recently visited links, and so on.

Think You Lost Your Firefox Bookmarks?

I have had a few friend and read a few horror stories Online about people who for one reason or another have lost their Firefox bookmarks and had to start all over.  What they were not aware of is that you may not have totally lost your Firefox boomarks at all.  There are backups hidden within your PC that I bet you haven’t even checked yet.
First thing you need to do is find your profile folder for Firefox.  Depending [...]

Cover Flow for Bookmarks

There is no doubt that the cover flow feature on Apple machines reeks of pretty eye candy that I wish I could enjoy.  I don’t have a budget big enough for a Mac or the time to learn how to use it, so I’ll have to stick with the knock-offs for now.  BookmarksPreviews (found via Download Squad) is a new addon to Firefox that wants to copy that fresh cover flow feeling with your bookmarks.

At the time of writing this [...]

Bookmarks by Chore or Subject?

Sort your bookmarks by task and not by subject. Over time I have learned to depend less and less on my bookmarks for getting me around the Web. Instead of searching through my bookmarks for the link I was wanting to browse again – I’ll just type it into the Google search box in Firefox if it was that hard to remember.
Most of the time, I can just type it into the address bar faster or get there [...]

For those of you who like to keep tabs on the popular kids in the Internet class we all sit in day after day, Social Media promises to bring together stories to let you know what place a page has on the social news networks.
