Firefox Screencap Project

I am always interested in seeing what type of projects people are starting up surrounding everybody’s favorite browser, Firefox. Chris sent this one my way, and I do have to say it is pretty interesting.

So, I’ve decided to start a little project. It’s officially called The Firefox Screencap Project. The aim is to get Firefox users to take a screencap of their Firefox. Here’s what you do: take a screencap of your browser and submit it to me at katyggls at yahoo dot com, along with a short description of what’s going on in your Firefox, including a list of the extensions you have installed, the name of the theme you’re currently using, and anything else you want us to know about how you run Firefox. Include a link to your blog or webpage, and I’ll post your screencap, your description and a link to your blog here at Kate’s Rambling’s And Wanderings.

I am going to send in my screenshots as soon as I can get them done. I think you should do the same. Seeing how other folks are using Firefox might even persuade you to try something new. Check out more about the project over at Kate’s Rambling’s and Wanderings.

CNet’s Top Firefox Extension Picks

A round up of the round ups might sound a little anal to some. CNet has put together three volumes of the “best of Firefox” as far as extensions go. All three lists have useful extensions, some I have tackled and some I have yet to try. Here is more Firefox extension love than you can shake a stick at.

Where Did Firefox Come From?

firefoxlogo.jpgTime for a history lesson on your favorite browser of choice, Firefox. I ran across this very detailed description of one man’s view of Firefox’s history. It just happens that this one man is Ben Goodger, the lead engineer for the browser in question. No matter if you are a new user wanting to know more, or an old user wanting to refresh your memory, you should give this a read.

IE Lover’s Guide to Firefox

I always like to see interesting views from both sides of the fence. In my own opinion, I think a lot of folks haven’t switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox because they just don’t see the reasons for it. They both surf the same Web right? Well, over at H3RALD.com they have an interesting article covering an IE lover’s view of the Firefox browser.

Firefox Toolbar Tutorial

This tutorial is by far the best one out there today at teaching you how to create a toolbar extension in Firefox. It provides an easy to understand “big picture” of how extensions are developed, the tools required to create an extension, and details on how toolbars are created. Even if you have never done this sort of thing before, I can promise you that you’ll “get it”.

A Million Reasons to Use Firefox

There has to be at least a million reasons to use Firefox, right? That is the idea behind the Web site, The Million Reasons. Here are a few good ones:

#120: Time is money. Firefox is super fast – like a jolt of lighting compared to Safari and Explorer – both painfully slowwwwwww.
#49: Updated Frequently
#206: it makes ramen (I didn’t know about this one!)

Have a friend or family member that isn’t sure if they want to switch? Send them to read this list.

Firefox Flicks

These movies might not help you use Firefox any better, but some of them are pretty fun to watch. The project is to “create a 30-second ad, in any style (live action or animated,) that brings Firefox to life for the millions of Web users who have yet to discover Firefox and the better Web experience it delivers.”

My suggestion for you? Go watch “Wheee!”, it is my favorite so far.
