Firefox Facts Weekly Links-o-plenty

Time to dive through some of my saved Firefox links of the week – think of this as the best of the best posted somewhere else:

Bookmarklets and Link Helpers

Thanks to some of the best bookmarklets out there on the Web, I feel like I have become a more organized and productive person. With the new year heading in, I figured this might be a good time to remind you to clean out the junk in your Firefox links bar and add some new things that might also help you become a better browser via your browser.

bookmark.png Toolbar-less StumbleUpon
I love StumbleUpon as much as the next guy, but the toolbar they provide is quickly becoming cluttered with stuff I don’t really care about viewing.

bookmark.png Gmail This!
If you find yourself as a user of Gmail sending a lot of stuff back and forth to friends, this is a bookmarklet that is as handy as any extension out there. Get a pop up window with an e-mail ready to go with the link of the web site you are on. You could use it right now to send this article over to Bob down the street. Go ahead and do it, I promise he won’t mind.

This service makes it super easy to get to sharing just about anything at just about all the biggest bookmarking and social link sharing web sites out there. Digg, delicious, and more. Continue Reading →

Firefox Holiday Limbo Link List

Might be a little shorter this week, but here are the Firefox and Mozilla links that caught my eye for this week. Remember, if you want more suggested reading from Firefox Facts, be sure to check out the resources section for more.

Ho, Ho, Firefox Links!

Time to check out the old saved link bag of goodies to see who’s been naughty or nice? Oh no, we all know Firefox has been good this year for the most part. Here is your weekly linkage to check out before you do that last minute Christmas shopping.

Have any others to share? With this being the pre-holiday blitz I am amazed so much Firefox stuff has been going on the last few weeks.

More Best of Firefox Awards

Time to hand out a few more awards to those who have made using Firefox just a little ‘bit better over the past 12 months. Congratulations to all, and yes – I am sure a few more awards might be on the way…More Year End Awards

Best Firefox related project award?

iPox Remix – In TwisterMC’s own words, “iPox Remix is my way of letting the user customize the iPox Firefox theme to their liking.” Never have I seen a better guide on how to get a good looking theme going with a lot of hand holding along the way. By far – this multi-stepped article series deserves to be the best as far as the non-Mozilla owned projects go.

Best alternative guide to Firefox award?

Learn Firefox – It is a visual guide to help you learn more about the Firefox browser. With an original look and feel to the entire web site and project, Learn Firefox leaps above the rest when it comes to giving you a new and exciting way to learn more about everybody’s new favorite browser. Major props for Chris, Ryan and Ashley for putting this one together.

Mitch’s favorite Mozilla Firefox awareness program?

Operation Firefox – Sharing the Firefox love by placing huge stickers all over the place. Point to me where the part not to love is, because I ain’t seeing it. Winners were also recently announced, so might be time to take look back at this Mozilla project if you haven’t been there in a while.

Best Firefox Blog?

MozillaLinks.org – This is a good blog that even I like to subscribe to so I can stay ahead of the game with some really cool news and information coming out of Mozilla about Firefox. Percy does a great job and hopefully will keep up the great work. Two thumbs up from one blog to another.

Want more? Ok, here are a few quickies:

Favorite Mozilla Personality? Asa Dotzler

Best Use of the Firefox Community? Spread Firefox

Biggest Waste of Time? Why Firefox is Blocked

Firefox Rumors, Hearsay and Links

Since it is the end of the year, Firefox news is hard to find. I went out and did the almost impossible though, and found a handful of goodies worth checking into. On with the linkage…

Have more Firefox linking love to share? Send it in – that is how these made their way to your eyeballs.

Fix for Firefox Memory Problems?

firefoxlogo.jpg Firefox uses a lot of RAM. It is the number one complaint about this otherwise awesome web browser. So what can you do to solve this issue? Well there are a few rumored fixed out there in the wild.

Here is the nitty-gritty about:config solution to the problem:

  • Open up about:config by typing it into your Firefox address bar.
  • Right-click, go to new and then integer and name it this: browser.cache.memory.capacity
  • For the integer value, enter in 15000 if you have 512MB to 1GB of RAM. For those with less (between 128MB to 512MB), try a value of 5000.  You’re done!

Then all you should need to restart Firefox for it to take effect.

Monday Mozilla Links and News

Time to take a look at what some of you might have missed over the weekend with your favorite orange and blue browser.

Remember, send your link suggestions to me and I might have to toss them out to the rest of the Firefox Facts-a-maniacs out there.

Top 5 Links on Firefox this Week

This week went by too quickly, so the links are not plentiful – but they are good. You come here for the quality though and not the numbers right?

As always, if you have a headline or two to send my way, feel free to send it to mitch@mitchkeeler.com. I’ll take the best of the best, and leave out the rest.

Top 5 Links of the Week

There has been a lot of cool tools, tweaks, links and news to fall through the cracks this week so let me get you caught up to date with a little round up of my top five stories of the week. Well, top five that didn’t start at FirefoxFacts.com anyways, Hehe…

5. Wrap Firefox’s Bookmarks Toolbar – Neat tweak to make that toolbar wrap onto multiple lines instead of scrolling off the right side.

4. Meet the Firefox Marketing Team – Check out the folks who’s job it is to spread the word about Firefox to all. Plus, you can get a little more information behind them too.

3. First Look at Firefox 3.0 – A series of screen shots of what you can expect to see in Firefox 3. If your just itching to see what it looks like, this is the link for you. They get two thumbs up from me thus far.

2. Gmail Greasemonkey API – The recent Gmail updates broke a lot of Greasemonkey tweaks – and now it looks like the Google Gmail team are offering an olive branch to the create scripters.

1. Better Gmail is Back – Gina over at Lifehacker has updated the Better Gmail extension to work with some of the recent changes to the Gmail system. All your old favorites might not be enabled in the extension just yet – but I am sure with time this extension will become as good (if not better) than Better Gmail 1.
