Quick Photo Editing With Picnik

Online Photo Editing with PicnikI am about to promise and deliver to you something that many people can not do – a Picnik with no ants – just photos.

Confused yet? Picnik is a really cool web site that allows you to edit your photos Online. Now when you mix that with the awesomeness that is Firefox – you have in your hands one heck of a nice tool.

Add a menu options and a toolbar icon to make importing images into Picnik easier. This extension adds a menu option when you right click on images to make it easy to pull the image into Picnik for editing. Firefox 2.0 users also menu options and a toolbar icon to take screen shots and import them into Picnik.

The thing that brings the magic together is the Picnik extension for Firefox. Might not be the time to uninstall Photoshop just yet – but give it some time and you might re-think that idea.

Turn Firefox into a Screensaver

How many times have you said to yourself, “I really wish Firefox was a screensaver too!”. Come on, tell me – I won’t tell anybody else. Well ok, I haven’t ever wondered that myself but just in case you ever have, there is now a solution to use. Tryout the FoxSaver extension for Firefox.

Here’s a link to the offical web site for more information:

Overall I’d say this is a neat idea for a Firefox addon, but not sure if it is useful just yet. They do have a big selection of neat photos – but i would really like to add my own – or have it pick up on my Flickr account (or insert your favorite photo host here.) Do you think this extension shows promise too?

PicLens – Full Screen Photo Browsing

PicLensNeed a new way to view your photos? The folks behind the PicLens extension for Firefox hopes that you do. With this extension you can turn Firefox into a full screen picture browser.

Here are some of the currently supported web sites: Flickr, Facebook, Google Images, Yahoo Images, Friendster, Picasa Web Albums, and more!

Here is a little more about the extension from the developers:

the plug-in provides an immersive full-screen experience for viewing photos on the Web. PicLens Beta 1.5 can be used on Flickr, Facebook, and image search results from Google and Yahoo, and any page that supports Media RSS. To use the software, move your mouse over an image and click the PicLens button that fades in.

I have to say it will be interesting to watch PicLens (pun fully intended there) to see where it goes from here on out.

Less New Themes and Extensions?

Have we reached the peak of new Firefox extensions or has everything been done as far as themes go? I have been talking with several people from around the Web and it does seem like there are less new themes and extensions than there used to be.

Sound off and let me know what you think. Personally I’d say we are on at least at a slow down for the new ones. Old ones are still updated though – so that is something to be thankful for.

6 Best Oddball Firefox Extensions

Since today is Friday, I figured why not lay back – kick my feet up and just look for some really wacky and maybe even useless Firefox extensions for you to play with? Here’s what made the list for this round up of oddball extensions.

Secret Word Grabber – Inspired by the “secret word” off of Peewee’s Playhouse. Yeah, that’s enough of that one already. As long as it doesn’t expose itself to me we will be alright.

OfficePoltergeist – Turn your web browser into a web server… of terror!

Anti-Paranoia – No, this extension will not spy and destroy your personal data, remember: Everything is good! Don’t panic!

Firesomething – This extension will give Firefox an identity crisis by generating a new randomized browser name every time you open a new window. Who doesn’t want to use Firetoad?

RandomMessage – For those of us out there who really do like to be bugged with random messages with no real purpose behind them. Excellent tool for those people who want to look busier than they really are.

STOP! Hammertime! – You can never get enough MC Hammer. Yeah, I had the baggy pants when I was young and you know you did too.

Twitter in Your Firefox – TwitBin

TwitBinI have not yet been bitten by the Twitter bug yet. Personally I think it is a little on the lame side of things. It does seem like it is getting more and more attention these days. So when I stumbled across this post at Mashable I figured I’d give TwitBin a shot.

In case constant SMS Twitter updates weren’t enough, you can now get them in your browser sidebar, using TwitBin. It’s fully functional for Twittering, so you can send and receive messages via this extension to stay forever updated with your Twitter friends.
