Thanks to the Firefox extension, Mass Installer, you never have to worry about downloading all your favorite extensions again when doing a clean install of everybody’s favorite browser. The only work you have to do is collect the links to all of your favorite extensions (i.e. to the XPIs) and put them in a text file (one URL per line). Be sure to check out some of the “extension packs” that the folks at Lifehacker put together as well.
Ever wanted an extension that would turn your Firefox installation into a news room interface? Love them or hate them, tickers on some of the big news stations can be pretty helpful. If nothing else, it gives you something to read. Now lets bring that ticker to the browser and toss RSS into the mix. RSS Ticker scrolls your live bookmarks (also known as news feeds/RSS feeds) across your browser, a la a cable-news style ticker.
There are millions of different forums out there. I am sure you might belong to one or two of them. Have you ever noticed they use funny code when it comes to adding bold text or links to a post? Well now with this Firefox extension, posting on forums will become a little more user friendly.
Daniel sent in a tip to me yesterday about Foxmarks. Foxmarks is an extension for Firefox that synchronizes bookmarks across multiple machines. Once you get the extension up and running, you can login to http://my.foxcloud.com/ to use your bookmarks on any computer. It couldn’t get any more simple than that.
Looking at pictures and graphics through our browsers is one of the small joys in life that many of us take for granted. There are other ways of viewing those graphics, and you don’t have to keep them in the browser to do so. Image Assistant helps you bring those pictures into another program.
For those folks out there that are looking for another way to flip between browsers, I introduce you to Optool. I found this tool via Chris, and I do have to say for coming in such a small package (112 KB to be exact) it packs a lot of punch. You can switch between Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Opera by default.
You can plug your own browser into the mix, if it isn’t one of the big three. It is yet another good way to do a little quick browser switching.
Now if you have read any of my Firefox tips and tricks I have been posting the last few months, you have probably seen me talk about IE View before. IE View allows for you to easily open up any Web page from Firefox into Internet Explorer. So what does IE View Lite do?
So thanks to Microsoft people can download all that IM, media playing, and alternative browsers such as Firefox? John Carroll talking about his frustrations with Antitrust lead Asa Dotzler to fight back with this:
John, your company broke the law. Microsoft was managed by lawbreakers and thugs who strong-armed OEMs that were already shipping a superior browser to millions and millions of users. Microsoft cheated. There is no honor in that, and even less in your sad attempt at defending it.
