Now you can edit the Firefox Menu and change it to your personal and powerful one! Personal Menu provides you a couple of new helpful items that available to be put into Firefox Menu: Bookmark Items, History Items, Configuration(about:config), Restart. In addition, you may create toolbar-box (let you put toolbar-buttons inside), sub-menus and split-menus to organize your Firefox Menu!

To sum things up, if you are one of those people who thought, "Well, this menu item would be a lot better over here" or "Why is there no easy way to get to that feature" then this add-on was designed for you.  This add-on gives you the most control (in comparison to other add-ons like it) when it comes to really customizing everything that is shown under the Firefox button.

You can pick up the Personal Menu add-on from the Firefox Add-ons website.

Once installed, the options here are simple.  You can enable or disable the multiple bookmark rows, and you can also set the max number rows to display.  If it doesn’t exactly match up with your current theme or you want to tweak it some, check out this post from the mozillazine.org forums. 

If you need more bookmark room in the browser, this add-on will do the trick.  You can pick it up on the Firefox Add-ons site.

This can easily be done via the built in search engine manager.

Click on Firefox’s search box, as if you were going to change search engines, and look at the bottom for a menu selection titled, “Manage Search Engines”.  Clicking it will bring up the Manage Search Engine List.  From here you can:

• Edit Search Engine Keywords
• Move Search Engines Up or Down
• Remove a Search Engine
• Restore the Default Search Engines
• Get More Search Engines
• Enable/Disable the “Show Search Suggestions”

There you have it.  Now Firefox has not always had this option.  Back in previous versions, you had to do some heavy duty hunting and pecking to really edit and organize your search engine selections.  This at least gives you a more user friendly interface, and I am all about the user friendly around here.

To launch, all you have to do is hit Ctrl+Space (or for the Mac users Ctrl+Alt).  If you want to use it without the graphical launcher above, use Shift+Alt (or Shift+Ctrl for the Mac users).

Some of the best features include the ability to customize the appearance, set the launcher to open in current or new tabs, set the launcher up as your homepage and you can add as many sites to it as you need to.

You can get more information about it via the official web site, and download it via the Firefox Add-ons site.  It is nice to see a good looking and well thought out extension – and this one fits the bill.

Get More Firefox Search Plugins

The first place to check out would be Mozilla’s own search engine page. From here you can add many of the top search engines from around the Web. From Live.com to Wikipedia to even Flickr – the best of the best are all listed.

To remove one, click on your search box and select “Manage Search Engines…”. On that new options window you can sort your search engines and remove the ones you don’t want.

Resize the Firefox Search Box

Need the Firefox search box to be a little wider or narrower by default. This can easily be taken care of in your userChrome.css file. This special file might be located in different places depending on your computer’s OS.

Add this to the userChrome.css file:

#searchbar {
-moz-box-flex: 400 !important;
}
#search-container {
-moz-box-flex: 400 !important;
}

This would make the search box 400 pixels wide. Change that number to a higher or lower value both places to change the size of the search box. Now save and restart Firefox, and your search box should be a different size.

Open a Search in a New Tab

By default, Firefox will open your search up in the current tab you are in. If you want it to be opened up in a new tab – type in our old friend, about:config into the address bar and search for this string: browser.search.openintab

You have to change browser.search.openintab from false to true.

Add Any Search Box to your Search Toolbar

Next, to becoming a true searching guru – you need to pick up the Add to Search Bar extension for Firefox. This extension will allow you to right-click any search box and select to add it to your Firefox search bar.

Clean Out Your Search Box History

Want to clear out your search history and start fresh? This is another search bar issue that some people have a problem figuring out how to do. Go to:

Tools > Options > Privacy

Then click on the “Settings…” button under Private Data. From there a new box will come up and allow you to tweak how much Firefox remembers about you. Saved Form Information is what you want if you’re looking to clear your searching history. Now go to Tools > Clear Private Private Data and you should be cleaned out.
