Not sure if you want a specific website gathering information about you via browser cookies? In Firefox it is very easy to specify website by website which ones are blocked from serving you up any cookies via the browser. I will let you know how to block cookies on a per site basis and see the websites that you have blocked cookie access from.

Here are the steps you will need to take:

Go to the website you wish to block from setting cookies in Firefox.

At the top of the Firefox, click on the Tools menu, and select Page Info.

In the Page Info window, select the Permissions panel.

Underneath Set Cookies, remove the check mark from Use Default.

Change the setting to Block.

Now, all you will need to do is close the Page Info window. You are done! What if you have a change of heart, but forgot what which website it was you blocked? You can view a full list of websites you have blocked in this way by following these steps:

Inside of Firefox, click on the Tools menu, and then select Options.

Next, select the Privacy tab

Set the Firefox will: drop down box to Use custom settings for history

Next to where it says Accept Cookies from sites, click on Exceptions

Now most of the time, cookies are not really harmful – they are just gaining information about you that the website might need to function or to learn more about the people who visit the site (like browser type, how long did you stay there, and more). Cookies also store website preferences and login statuses too. So be careful before you get too trigger happy blocking too many browser cookies.

There you have it. Now you can be a little more in control of how cookies are treated on a per website basis inside of Firefox.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Not a big fan of Digg’s new Diggbar? Thanks to a little help from Firefox and a few fine Greasemonkey scripts, you can kill it off and never have to see it again. Try these two scripts out:

Anti Diggbar

Neither will kill off the Diggbar totally, but they should help you automatically redirect to the page and address you want to see. Why would you want to kill the Diggbar? Well, some have said there is concern about Digg stealing SEO (search engine optimization) linkage from sites. Also, some people just don’t like new things. (source: Download Squad)

Will Firefox start telling you where you can or can not go? Where are my freedoms?! I can already smell some of the outrage that might be building over Firefox 3 blocking Web sites that try to install back stuff onto your computer. Personally I think it is a good thing after reading through this article from Computer World.

Here is the most interesting sample from the article in question.

“Similar to how Firefox 2 blocks Web sites that are potentially going to try to steal your personal information, Firefox 3 will block Web sites that we believe are going to try to install malicious programs on your computer,” said Alex Faaborg, a user experience designer in a blog entry last week. “Mozilla is coordinating with Google on this feature.”

So is it Firefox’s place to tell you where to go and where not to go? I think so. I think this is Mozilla trying to be proactive instead of being reactive.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Want to raise your productivity, but can not drag yourself away from the time sucking Web sites you like to visit on the Web? Do you spend more time customizing your MySpace page than working on that pile of articles you should be writing? We have all found ourselves having our time leeched away – and now we can do something about it.

LeechBlock helps you gain control back by allowing you to block certain Web sites that suck away your day. Here is some more information from the developers of the extension.

LeechBlock is a simple productivity tool designed to block those time-wasting sites that can suck the life out of your working day. (You know: the ones that rhyme with ‘Blue Cube’, ‘Hash Pot’, ‘Sticky Media’, and the like.) All you need to do is specify which sites to block, between which time periods, and on which days of the week. You can specify up to four sets of sites to block, with different times and days for each set.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!
