So what are some of the Firefox settings and details you can tweak?

Move Status Bar icons to any location

Use Movable Firefox Menu Button (puts Firefox Menu Button in toolbar button so you can move it wherever you want)

Display Page Title in Title bar while using Firefox Menu Button

Add "New Tab" Option to Tab Context Menu

I have a feeling we are going to see a lot more add-ons for Firefox like this one. Firefox 4 is leaps over bounds better than the version before, however the one thing that will hold it back will probably be the number of complaints about the user interface and how people like the older design better. Thankfully, Mozilla makes it easy for tweakers like us to fix or change things to look and feel the way we want them to.

You can pick up the Firefox 4 UI Fixer from the Firefox Add-ons website.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

While Prism might be getting the boot though, the idea behind it still lives on.

The Chromeless Browser is one of those projects that might be the next best thing after Prism. The idea behind it is to remove the current browser interface we know and love and replace it with a flexible platform. That, in turn, would allow for the creation of new browser interfaces using standard web technologies.

It would seem that Mozilla thinks the general conversation of the web has moved beyond wanting online apps as desktop apps. If you look at the big picture, this makes sense – because for something like Prism to be successful, the modern web browser must die. With Mozilla facing more competition these days than they did back in 2007 when Prism was launched – I can understand the thoughts behind retiring the Prism project.

Go check out the Mozilla Labs post yourself, and let me know what you think. Will you miss Prism, or had you forgotten it even existed?

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

How do you quickly scroll to the top or the bottom of a webpage? While we might often think of the mouse’s scroll wheel as a pretty default “duh-like” answer – there are other and maybe better ways to get the job done in Firefox.

Keyboard Tip – The first scrolling tip I have to share with you is related to the pictures you see above. You can hit the Home key on your keyboard to go to the top of a webpage, and the end key on your keyboard to navigate your way to the bottom of a webpage very quickly.

Now, for the super handy extension to save the day.

The Scroll to Top/Bottom add-on for Firefox gives you a few more ways to do this same task. You can either do it from the buttons in Firefox’s navigation toolbar or you can go up and down from the right-click menu.

You can pick up the Scroll to Top/Bottom add-on for Firefox from the Firefox Add-ons website.

So, now it is your turn. Tell me how you quickly go from the top of a webpage to the bottom (or the other way around) in the comments.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Along with all of your productive and useful websites out there, gaming websites or online games often get tossed to the wayside. You know what though? Supporting games and independent developers is just as important as supporting the guys making the awesome website applications we all know and love. With that said, I am happy to see Mozilla has launched the new Mozilla Labs Gaming.

From the sound of it, it looks like they are really reaching out to online game makers to provide them with the community, platform and tools they need to create new and innovative games for the browser.

From the Mozilla Labs Gaming blog, here is what Pascal Finette said about why Mozilla is traveling down this new fork in the road:

Modern Open Web technologies introduced a complete stack of technologies such as Open Video, audio, WebGL, touch events, device orientation, geo location, and fast JavaScript engines which make it possible to build complex (and not so complex) games on the Web. With these technologies being delivered through modern browsers today, the time is ripe for pushing the platform. And what better way than through games? Traditionally games and game developers have been at the forefront of technology, often pushing the boundaries of what was thought possible.

To to kick things off, and start them off right, Mozilla Labs Gaming is going to launch an international gaming competition called Game On 2010. Not much news has been released about it yet – but keep your eye on gaming.mozillalabs.com for more information.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

It looks as if Dell is going into the browser business, with its virtualized version of Firefox. The idea here is to provide the users a virtual instance of the browser, so that malware and other bad things can’t reach your main system files. This in turn would reduce your overall exposure to drive-by malware attacks from websites that might host malicious code.

Not to get too geeky, by keeping the browser and the rest of the PC in two separate environments – hopefully this will lessen the chance you have of being totally hosed if you happen to stumble across a bad part of the web out there. Dell has also renamed their version of Firefox to the Dell Kace Secure Browser.

Here are some of the features:

Provides a virtualized and contained Firefox v3.6 Browser with Adobe Reader and Flash plug-ins

Rapidly reset any changes made during normal use back to their initial state, enabling easy recovery from infections or attacks

View statistics related to the number of processes detected and blocked

Set white and black lists to limit access to known good sites, or prevent access to known bad sites to further limit the risk of attack and infection

If you want to try it out for yourself, you can download the Dell Kace Secure Browser from Dell’s website.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

There will be no more updates for Firefox 3.0.x anymore, so if you haven’t upgraded to Firefox 3.6 – you had better hurry up and do so. That was the official word from Mozilla on the topic in a recent meeting.

Now this might disappoint a handful of users out there, but it is nice to see Mozilla being more future focused – looking to get upgrades and updates out faster to the most recent Firefox versions.

Firefox 3.0 will be looked back upon with great admiration. It was the version of Firefox that set the Guinness world record for downloads in a 24-hour period, after all.

So now the question is – are you still using Firefox 3.0, and if the answer is yes, let us know “why” in the comments.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

The History Submenus extension for Firefox is here to make thumbing through the browser’s history easier.

The browsing history in Firefox is one of the most taken for granted features, that can sometimes produce amazing results. Say you check out a web page today, never think about it again – and then tomorrow you say, “what did that article say again?”. Just browse through your Firefox history, and you can find the answer.

What the History Submenus add-on does different, is it places each day’s entire browsing history in a submenu of the history’s menu from the menu bar in Firefox. Simply put, it makes the History menu much more usable.

You can pick up the History Submenus add-on on the Firefox Add-on’s web site.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Come on, is it time yet?

If you find yourself asking this question time and time again, it might be about time you picked up the Simpler Timer add-on for Firefox. This clock and timer, once installed, lives inside your status bar (or toolbar) for easy access.

The built in timer mode has three different functions:

1. Count up from zero.
2. Count down from any time (less than 24 hours). You can set as many
timers as you want.
3. Select a specific time of the day to receive a notification. You can also
specify the day (daily, weekdays, weekends or a specific day).
You can set as many notifications as you want.

The Simple Timer add-on also features a clock mode, that will amazingly enough tell you the time.

You can pick up this amazing little Firefox add-on from the Firefox Add-ons web site.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

On Friday, Mozilla Firefox was downloaded for the one billionth time since the release of 1.0 in 2004. To help celebrate the news, Mozilla has released a new web site called One Billion + You.

From there, you can easily post to Twitter how much one billion really is, such as:

A bowl big enough to fit one billion goldfish would be as big as a stadium.

One billion stacked coins would reach nearly 1,000 miles high.

One billion centimeters is approximately the distance from Chicago to Tokyo.

One billion seconds is roughly 31.7 years.

One billion kilograms is equal to the weight of 250,000 elephants.

One billion credit cards weigh as much as fifty-two blue whales.

If that wasn’t enough, you can also make up your own to share on Twitter or Facebook. Also don’t forget to decorate your Twitter icon with a Twibbon too.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!
