Time to dig through the newest Firefox themes to see what treasures we can find. Today’s selection comes in three different flavors, green, purple and black and is known simply as LavaFox.

Now I have mentioned before that is is really hard to make a usable dark Firefox theme, but I think LavaFox does a great job at getting the job done. It doesn’t seem too dark – and is still really usable and great to look at. The sleek black interface will look great on any Windows 7 or Windows Vista desktop too.

Just about every aspect of the skin is themed too – which is nice to see that they paid that much attention to the details. Want to give them a shot?

LavaFox V1 Purple

LavaFox V1 Green

BlackFox V1

All three themes can be downloaded from the Firefox Add-ons website.

A number of places are showing off some new design concepts for the Firefox 4 browser. Now we have seen pitched some awesome Firefox 3.7 designs in the past, but it makes me wonder if the design phase for that is over, or if they are going to skip it to go directly to Firefox 4.

Not sure if I am digging the big orange button, but one would think it could be skinned over with a custom theme. Are you excited about this new application button?

One can only hope. According to several web sites that heard about it from a friend, who knew a friend, who was feeding the dog of a guy who might have worked at Sony, the PlayStation 3’s web browser might be getting a big upgrade, to Firefox.

Well turns out is was a possible rumor, then not so possible, but might be in the works? Here is the first leak of information from psinsider:

We recently received a tip from a source very close to Sony who says that they have been in talks with Mozilla lately about possibly porting Firefox over to the PS3.

Later on, they issued a “correction”:

Looks like we goofed on the Mozilla rumor… I heard back from our source recently.”I don’t know how the guys from ps3center did this, but please tell me WHERE I wrote that Mozilla is going to port Firefox for PS3 ?? There was just a meeting between someone from PS division and someone from Mozilla.”The original message only mentioned that they had been talking, and I made the mistake of assuming it was related to porting Firefox onto PS3. I apologize for the lack of foresight. Sometimes when interpreting information from a rumor (which in some cases can be worded pretty vaguely), mistakes like this can be made. We apologize for the inconvenience.

So there were “talks”, I guess you could say, but nothing definite or newsworthy yet. Personally, I’d love to see the PS3 browser get switched over to Firefox. Even a stripped down basic version of Firefox would be better than the buggy thing they have there now.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Happy birthday wishes and big congratulations go out today to Firefox. Did you realize that Firefox is five years old? Some people are having a hard time thinking five years passed by so quickly, while others feel like it has been around even longer than that.

Here’s a great video that does a good job at telling the story of Firefox, from then to now:

The peeps over at Lifehacker have also written up a great retrospective that is well worth checking out. What birthday wishes would you like to send to the Mozilla team? Without Firefox, there would be no Firefox Facts – so as I enjoy three years of this blog, I’d like to thank Mozilla for the inspiration and all of you for reading it every day and making it one of the most popular un-official Firefox blogs out there today.

So happy birthday to Firefox, one of the best browsers out there on the planet.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

There are a number of different add-ons that will change the way your Firefox tabs look. How would you like to have one that made your tabs match your web site you are browsing. FabTabs does that.

How does it work? I’m happy you asked…

FabTabs is kind of an experimental extension for now that will color your Firefox Tabs in a way you have never seen before. By taking a small screenshot of the website you are currently viewing, and calculating the most commonly used color from that screenshot, it tries to take the 1 essential color from the website and applies it to the tab.

Sounds like a good idea. If your looking to make your tabs appear more like the pages your surfing, pick up the FabTabs add-on for Firefox.

Well, this is one of those security issues that everybody always knew was there – but the community usually did a good job at policing it themselves to where it did not become an issue. It looks like somebody has been creating and uploading Greasemonkey scripts that steal your cookies. Since your cookies store a lot of information about you – you can see this is a kind of big deal here.

Here is the post that got my attention on UserScripts.org:

Someone has been attempting to post scripts that steal cookies. Thanks to several alert us.o citizens (including davey, descriptor, loucypher, joel h, pogue) we have been able to note that the script is malicious and then delete them.

I’m putting up a banner to warn people that newly uploaded/updated scripts should be put under extra scrutiny.

I’ve also decreased the cache duration of rss feeds to 10 minutes, so if you keep an eye on http://userscripts.org/feeds/recent_scripts it will be a lot fresher than normal (it was cached for an hour)

So yes, everybody should be extra careful when downloading scripts like this – even if it is from a trusted source. I am happy to see the UserScripts.org team moved so quickly on this though. That makes me feel a lot better about my continued use of their Firefox extension.

The sidebar in Mozilla is a handy tool to have.

You can load up a plethora of information inside of it, but why must we be limited to just using one at a time? Well, the secret here is you do not have to be limited at all. With the MultiSidebar extension you can have multiple sidebars going at once.

Put one on the top, bottom, left and right side of the browser if you want to. The only problem you mind find yourself running into is the screen space for the Web page you are viewing keeps getting smaller and smaller. Ok, so maybe running all four sidebars at the same time would be silly.

Nice to know it could be there though with this download.
