Hide Your Menu Bar

Now when it comes to using a browser, some people like a lot of open space and others like to have a plethora of tool bars. Personally I find myself in the first camp – most of the time. That is why I was happy to see this new Hide Menubar extension roll my way.

Hide MenubarNow with a name like that, I bet you can’t guess what it does. If you said, “downloads kewl wallpaper” I’m afraid you have not won. This extension allows for you to easily hide the menu bar inside of Firefox. This gives you more room to browse the Web. You can always bring it back though, just by hitting the ALT key to show it temporarily.

Industrial Theme for Firefox

When it comes to themes for Firefox, you should know by now that I like them to be easy on the eyes and I like for them to be simple. When you mix those two needs together, you can for sure get the Industrial Firefox theme. This will give your browser a slick new look and you will love what you see.

Industrial

Icons from the Tango Desktop Project. It is a variant of the “Tango” theme for use with Novell’s Industrial look, see more details there.

Looks pretty good to me, but don’t take my word for it – try it out for yourself.

Clean and Familiar Firefox Theme

Kemplton is definately a clean and familiar Firefox theme.

I have been using it on my notebook PC for a while now, and I can not say I have any real complaints. A lot of the icons and navigation of it look much like the standard themes you see out there. It might not re-invent the wheel, but it is easy on the eyes.

Give it a shot and let me know your own thoughts on it.

Cutting Down the Browsing Clutter

Sure you have heard of trimming the tree around Christmas time, but what about trimming your browser? The folks over at CyberNet have done it again, producing one heck of a nice guide to cutting the slack from your Firefox experience.

Firefox is a truly amazing browser and I think my favorite part about it is that the extensions make it remarkably useful. They add features that I wouldn’t expect a Web browser to do, such as serve as an FTP client. While I think extensions are great, I also find myself installing some that I just don’t need. It is almost like an addiction, and with a new year right around the corner I thought it was a good time to trim some of the “fat” (a.k.a. extensions) off of my Firefox profile by re-evaluating my need for the extensions.

They cover just about everything. From cleaning up your toolbar to clearing the mess from your profile, you have no excuse not to do a little house cleaning before the new year rolls around.

Google Reader Optimized

If you use either the Greasemonkey or Stylish Firefox extensions, I have the perfect extension for you when it comes to getting a little more browsing room while using Google Reader.

Just load this bad boy up via either one of those extensions and you should be good to go.

So where does it save you the room? Well for the most part it looks like it just cuts off the Google stuff from the top and gives you the “full view” of the reader. This is nice if you just hate seeing that Google Reader logo at the top every time you login.

Maxi Firefox 2 Theme

Here is another good theme that has been made for the Firefox 2 general layout. The designer of this theme describes it as a Clean modern theme for Firefox 2. A nice alternative to the default theme since the colors are lighter and easier on the eyes. I don’t know about you, but I think I will have to agree with them on this one.

Visit Planet Mir

planet_mir-4.jpgIt has been a while since I changed my Firefox theme. I have been using Mostly Crystal most of the time these days, but I thought I would look around and see if I could find a different one I liked. That is when I decided to take a trip to Planet Mir and I do have to say I like what I see. This theme is different and cute. A real clean interface, and with time it might be one of the number one choices out there.
