With the DSBMarks extension for Firefox, you can start to store your bookmarks in a different way. Rather than organizing them by the folders you decide to drop them in – DSBMarks creates a date based hierarchy to sort your new bookmarks for you.

Once you have installed the add-on, it is simple enough to use. Just click the Bookmark icon in the status bar:

Once you do, you get a pop-up message saying that the page has been bookmarked. As you can see thus far, this is not rocket science. Next, to find your bookmark, open up your bookmarks sidebar or use the drop down list feature from the menu bar. When you do, you should see a folder named 2010. Inside that folder is another folder named 7. Inside that folder is another folder named 21. Now, inside of the 21 folder you will find your bookmark. This is representing the fact that it was bookmarked 7/21/2010.

Now either the best feature, or the biggest drawback (depending on how you look at it) is that it does not take over your current bookmarking system. If you bookmark a page normally, it will be stored in the default way Firefox handles bookmarks. It is only stored in this nested by date way when you click the bookmark icon in the status bar.

You can try DSBMarks out for yourself and let me know what you think. Pick it up at the Firefox Add-ons website.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Love them or hate them, Personas are here to stay, and I have to say the abstract category of Personas on Firefox’s web site are probably some of my favorites of them all.

Think of that wasted space in your tab bar. You know, where the favicon for the web site your visiting rests. Isn’t there enough room there to fit in a little more information about the web site you are visiting?

The new Firefox add-on Badges on Favicon takes advantage of that idea very well. It allows you to put a rounded badge over the tab favicon of some pages. Where does this come in handy? Well what if you could see in your tab the number of unread Gmail messages you had? Or how about if it told you how many new posts were in Google Reader?

Nuggets of Information for Your Tabs

The extension uses little scripts, called badgets. The badgets define both the appearance of the badge (color, position, size of the text, etc.) and how to get the data from the current page. The extension comes with three sample badgets that work with Gmail, iGoogle Reader Gadget and Zenbe. But you can install your own badgets and even create your own for your preferred site.

This add-on was also a runner up in the Extend Firefox 3 contest. It is still listed as “experimental” so you might need to visit BugMeNot for a user name and password (or sign up on Mozilla.org) to use before trying to download.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

I am pretty sure it is the first all pink Firefox theme that I have seen. Cross-dressing jokes aside it does look pretty nice if you like pink. If not, then well – give me a macho manly theme to pimp out. Till then, you will have to live with Pink Paula.
