Today I saw my first Firefox 3 extension that bring back “classic” features of Firefox 2. It was only a matter of time before some of these started to pop up and I have a feeling that many more may be on their way.

The oldbar addon replaces Firefox 3′s new address bar with the one that you are used to now in Firefox 2. Here is the new Firefox 3 address bar (or otherwise known as the location bar):

Then here is the classic one you will get with this Firefox 3 extension:

You can pick up the oldbar extension over at the Mozilla addons web site.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Sure, the people holding out on Firefox 2 are going to be given a kick in the pants to upgrade, but having to support several older versions of a program can’t be easy for such a developing and always changing product like a browser. There are great things going on via the Web these days, and your browser is your portal to it. Don’t you want to use the latest and greatest?

No. A lot of folks get caught up in being “uber fans” though and don’t realize that all browsers have some good points and some bad points. This article I found yesterday really got me to thinking – it might have the same effect on you as well.

Naturally, all of this has generated a bit of contention among users of Microsoft Windows where Firefox fans put down IE and users of IE 7 say they don’t want to bother with changing anything on their computers that is working. I’m an unlikely Solomon, but I do know what I would order if I were in charge: Use them both.

I have been using it on my notebook PC for a while now, and I can not say I have any real complaints. A lot of the icons and navigation of it look much like the standard themes you see out there. It might not re-invent the wheel, but it is easy on the eyes.

Give it a shot and let me know your own thoughts on it.

Julien promised me that there would be more Cylence themes to come, and I was not disappointed to see them pop up on Mozilla’s Web site a few days ago.

Here is the list thus far:

Cylence Theme
Cylence Theme : Diamond Variation
Cylence Theme : Sapphire Variation
Cylence Theme : Ruby Variation
Cylence Theme : Obsidian Variation

For those of you who do not know, the Cylence themes are a different variation of the default Firefox theme. They provide a polished look, tinted with at least one color for good measure.

Only question I have is where is my emerald theme? :)

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!
