TinyURL Generator

create shorter links, easily!

There are dozens of add-ons for Firefox that will generate any number of tiny URLs from any number of link shortening services.  With that said, I have one more to toss into the category, that may be a little more visually pleasing than some others I have shown you in the past.  The TinyURL Generator is a tiny extension in its own right that allows you to quickly.. well, generate a TinyURL to share.

It creates a TinyURL for the page you are currently viewing in the background.  The URL created is then copied to your clipboard, so that you can paste it anywhere you might need it instantly.  Here are a few more ways you can generate your sharable links:

  • Simply click the icon. A TinyURL is created as defined in the options dialog (default is normal TinyURL)
  • Right-Click the icon. This will give you the choice to create a normal TinyURL or one which is ‘Previewable’. The default type is shown in bold. This can be changed using the Optioins dialog.
  • Right Click any link on a page and select ‘Create TinyURL’ to create a TinyURL for the link destination.

You too can pickup the TinyURL Generator add-on for Firefox on the Firefox Add-ons web site.  For more link shortener extensions be sure to check out our list of the best URL shorteners for Firefox.

HandyTags – Useful Tag Suggestions for Bookmarks

HandyTag As another Extend Firefox 3 contest winner, HandyTag deserves a look.  This add-on for Firefox provides a complete set of the most relevant keywords when you bookmark a page.  Where do these keywords come from?  Many different sources from around the Web.

This comes in handy when you bookmark a page, and your not sure exactly with what words it should be tagged with (or you don’t want to take the time to think it out).  There is no need for straining your brain to think of descriptive tags any longer with this extension.

You can pick HandyTag up on the Firefox Add-ons web site and learn more about HandyTag on the official web site.  It is still sandboxed on Firefox’s web site, so if you need a login to try it out, be sure to checkout these bugmenot username and password combinations.

Dummy Text Addon for Firefox

lipsumgen Many designers, when they are in need of some dummy text to fill in a layout won’t do what I do.  Personally, I like just to write random sentences such as, “The duck likes to party with the midget at Wrestlemania.” over and over.

The dummy text they use has a name though – it is called Lorem Ipsum.  While it does resemble classical Latin, it (much like my sentence before) has no real meaning.

Dummy Lipsum, a Firefox extension, does the hard work for you and will auto generate this text for you.  After installing you can setup how it starts, you can show HTML tags and you can also set how much text it generates and how it is formatted.

When your done, you just hit the generate button, and then copy it to your clipboard.  From there, you can paste it any place you might need it.  As a bonus tip, I’ll also share this little tidbit of information.  You can do the same without an extension by just visiting the lipsum.com web site.  The Firefox addon though does make this auto generation a little more handy to have when your in a hurry to generate some text that really means nothing at all.
