Hacks
By design, Firefox is pretty easy to customize as far as the toolbars on the top go. You just have to right click on some empty space up there, then choose “Customize”. From there you can drag things off the Firefox toolbars or add them. Two options are not so easily edited though. That would be the “Go” button and the magnifying glass.

Need a quick and almost painless way of getting rid of those pointless “go” and “search” icons in the Firefox 2 interface? While doing a little customization on my own install, I ran across this tutorial via the Firefox Extension Guru’s Blog.

There is nothing wrong with the Go button and there is nothing wrong with those who like it. Hey, if I had a reason to use it – I would. Thankfully though, I have an enter key, which in turn does pretty much the same thing. Banish the Go button from your installation of Firefox 2!
What do you need to do? Well just type “about:config” and scroll down till you see this:
