By design, Firefox is pretty easy to customize as far as the toolbars on the top go. You just have to right click on some empty space up there, then choose “Customize”. From there you can drag things off the Firefox toolbars or add them. Two options are not so easily edited though. That would be the “Go” button and the magnifying glass.

To remove these two, you will need to edit your UserChrome.css file and add these entries to the bottom.

Remove the Go Button:

    #go-button-stack, .search-go-button-stack {
display: none !important;
}

Remove the “Search” Button:

     /*Remove magnifying glass button from search box*/
.search-go-button-stack { display: none !important; }

Now when your done, restart Firefox and you now have a little more room freed up where those buttons used to be.

This is a classic Firefox 2 tip that makes me wonder if it will still exist with Firefox 3 looming around the corner?

Need a quick and almost painless way of getting rid of those pointless “go” and “search” icons in the Firefox 2 interface? While doing a little customization on my own install, I ran across this tutorial via the Firefox Extension Guru’s Blog.

With the new default theme for Firefox 2 there is not a ’simple’ way to remove the ‘Go’ Button from the navigation toolbar. I never used the go button since I simply press enter after I type in address. This will make your address box a little bigger as well. There a couple ways you can remove the Go Button either via about:config or modifying your userChrome.css file.

Quick. Easy. Painless.

There is nothing wrong with the Go button and there is nothing wrong with those who like it. Hey, if I had a reason to use it – I would. Thankfully though, I have an enter key, which in turn does pretty much the same thing. Banish the Go button from your installation of Firefox 2!

What do you need to do? Well just type “about:config” and scroll down till you see this:

browser.urlbar.hideGoButton

Then change it from false to true. That’s right, get Firefox your way with just a few clicks.

                                                                                Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!
