If you watch as many Firefox RSS feeds as I do, you probably noticed about three dozen of them starting out with this same headline. Firefox 2 is coming out tomorrow! Finally all the folks that might have been holding out on downloading a release candidate can sink their teeth into the latest and greatest Mozilla offering.
In a quick Security Bits video, I think the guys over at Cnet have it summed up the best. Internet Explorer 7 is better than IE 6, but doesn’t beat Firefox.

The people at bit-tech.net give us yet another side by side comparison of the new Internet Explorer and Firefox 2.0. The entire article in question has a lot of interesting points, but the last paragraph left me a little shocked.
If IE7 is such a massive improvement, it’s hard to see what about the new Firefox really justifies the moniker ‘2.0′. It really seems like more of a 1.6 - there’s not a lot of difference here. The browser wars just got a lot more interesting…

There is a war that is about to start, but who will win this epic battle? Once Internet Explorer 7 finally gets out of development, there is no doubt that it will be a threat to Firefox usage. To give Internet Explorer 7 some credit, they are doing a lot of good things. Things that should have been done many years ago. So, will Internet Explorer 7 kill Firefox?
