Camifox Theme for Firefox Rocks!

As soon as I say I like this theme, somebody is going to pop out of the wood work and say how awful my choice in themes really is.  To keep those people at bay I will only say… oh forget them.  Camifox is a unique new look for Firefox, yet doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel.

Here is a little more about the theme from the designer:

Firefox 3, in living color. Camifox replaces Firefox’s monolithic toolbar buttons on Mac OS X (and the icons on Windows and Linux) with the bright, colorful icons from the Mozilla Camino browser, and it also makes the tab bar easier to read with higher contrast.

How does it look?  Camifox, if I dare to say is a great looking theme in my opinion.  Here is how it looks on Mac, Vista, XP and Linux:

You can pick Camifox up for yourself on the Firefox Add-ons web site.  How do you feel about it, love it or hate it? (Having Problems?  Try the Alternative Download Link!)

Firefox 3 Faster than Safari Where?

In a funny, yet surprising twist of fate it looks like the ZDNet guys found that using SunSpider JavaScript benchmark tests that Firefox 3 Beta 5 is faster than Safari 3.1… on a Mac!

That has to be a little ‘bit of an embarrassment for the Apple team but good news for all the Apple users out there that are looking forward to trying out and switching to Firefox 3 - once the final version hits the streets.  Sure, the Safari wildebeests will say Firefox is only faster by a 7% margin but it is still a feather to be had in Mozilla’s proverbial cap.

Safari Auto Installs to Bulk User Numbers?

Rotten Apples? Just think of all the people out there who have installed iTunes and either use it religiously or just have it to say they have it. Now think of all those people all of the sudden got a “magical gift” from Apple that included a free download of Safari the next time they did the Apple Software Update.

Many are pretty angry about Apple using it’s software updating service to push out updates for products people never downloaded. A lot of people are asking, “Well, why would they do this?”.

The answer is simple. They want an easy way into the browser wars. Ridding on the coat tails of Quick Time or iTunes, sneaking onto a person’s PC is the easiest way to do it. John Lilly (Mozilla’s CEO) had a very interesting write up on this worth checking out.

Lets just say, don’t be surprised if in a few months down the road the number of Safari users equals or is a little less than the number of iTunes users. Who would Safari be able to knock down the list? Opera or Firefox?

Put Firefox in Pinstripe

Remember when I told you last week how to install themes from new sources? Well I have yet another cool looking theme you can practice that on. The Pinstripe 2.2 theme for Firefox by tanjihay over at DeviantArt.com.

Pinstripe Theme for Firefox

Sure it has that “Apple-like” flavor, but even Windows or Linux users can pretend right? Trying my best to forget about the Appleness myself and just keep telling myself it is a cool brushed-metal looking theme. Over and over… till those dreams of Steve Jobs touching my Firefox goes away.

Use iPhone Web Apps in Firefox’s Sidebar

iPhone Apps for FirefoxCome on, there has to be something useful the rest of the world (who doesn’t have an iPhone) can do with all these neat slim web apps that are coming out for the device, right? Looks like “the great themer” TwisterMC had the same idea:

Firefox’s sidebar is and odd place to load a web page, however if you manage your bookmarks, there will be an option to load any bookmark in your sidebar. The good news is that some iPhone applications can load and work in Firefox’s sidebar!

I have to admit some of them look pretty cool.

Check out the iPhone Application List for more suggestions to try too.

Found another iPhone application that looks good in the Firefox sidebar?

iAqua - Macish Theme That Looks Good!

Now usually when it comes to Apple-like themes I usually look the other way because they are all pretty much the same theme, but done by different people. Blah - there is nothing new to that! Well, that was the case till I checked out TwisterMc’s latest wicked creation.

iAqua

The iAqua theme for Firefox is actually a Macish theme I would consider using.

Firefox on Mac Feedback

I have noticed a comment or two here and a post or two somewhere else that Firefox seems to give Mac users some trouble. Now in the future, it has been promised that things should get better (by the time Firefox 3 rolls out) but some do not want to wait. If you feel like you have a good opinion to share about the Apple/Firefox experience, I have a place where you can go sound off.

+ Post Your Mac-related Firefox Feedback!

Now this is no official means of support, but if I know the Firefox crew they will love to hear the feedback no matter where it is posted or how it gets to them.
