Every so often, you might need to find your Firefox profile folder to do some tweaking or maintenance of your own. In the past, this has lead to diving through your operating system’s folders and after twenty clicks, finding the information you need. Since Firefox 3.6 there is a much easier way to open your profile folder, with no additional extensions installed.

To open your Firefox profile folder, go to Help in the menu bar:

Next, click on Troubleshooting Information. This will take you to the about:support information page. If you can remember, you can also visit this page by typing about:support into the Firefox address bar too.

Under Application Basics, click on the button that reads, "Open Containing Folder" next to Profile Directory, and there you go. Your Firefox profile directory should be opened up. Going to the profile location by following the folder path to it via your computer still works, but this is a much easier way to get the job done.

Hope this comes in handy next time you want to backup, tweak or change something in your Firefox profile folder.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Looking for a lean, mean Mac only Firefox theme? If you want Firefox to look a little more minimal on your Apple-powered PC, then look no further than Leanfox. This theme has all the style and substance you need, and little to no distractions in the interface.

Here is a little more about the theme, from the developer:

The aim of this theme is to be no-nonsense, clean, utility like, compact, minimal. This theme has no extra lines or details anywhere: the tabs blend into the main chrome and only the active tab is really highlighted – making you concentrate on only one thing at a time. There’s also minimal separation between the tabs as it became apparent that separating lines were just distracting.

Only downside to this theme is it is Mac only for now (no Windows version yet) but maybe if we leave the author enough nice comments showing him the need for Windows version, he might reconsider.

You can pick up this theme from the Firefox Add-ons web site or via the official Leanfox theme site.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Ready for a new theme for Firefox to start the new year? How about a theme that doesn’t just give you one skin to choose from, but rather two?

GrayFox, a new theme for Firefox does exactly that.

You see, the image you see above is from the theme when you have “Use Small Icons” checked in the Customize Toolbar window (right-click the navigation toolbar > select customize). If you use un-check the option to use small icons, then the theme switches to look like this:

Pretty neat, hu? The theme obviously has inspiration from Apple’s OSX, and Safari – but I won’t hold that against them.

Now for my next trick, I will let you know where you can find this awesome new theme for Firefox. You can download the GrayFox theme for Firefox from the Firefox Add-ons web site.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Looks like this Firefox theme is feeling a little blue. The Blu Canidae theme for Firefox is a modified version of the iFox theme with Photoshop CS3 style icons. The combination of those great features makes for a really nice looking blue/mac-ish theme.

Here is a little more about the theme from the developer:

This was designed to be a cleaner, blue version of iFox. It has stylized buttons, and is intended to be a new alteration of my old theme, Blu Vos. I hope you like it. If you can, please leave a comment and a review. This helps me out immensely. If you run into any problems, or find any flaws, please tell me! I want to make this theme better, and your assistance makes that possible.

I have always been a big fan of TwisterMC’s work on Firefox themes, and apparently so are a lot of you. One reader on TwisterMC’s blog even went as far as combining two of his themes (MidnightFox and iPox Aqua) to make this beauty, Midnight iPox.

You can pick the theme up at TwisterMC’s web site. Just download it from there, then open Firefox, go to Tools > Add-ons and drag Midnight-iPox.jar into the left side of the Themes section. Once it has been installed, restart Firefox to be able to use it. Always love to see the openness and creativity of the Mozilla fan base – and this is a perfect example of that at its best.

As soon as I say I like this theme, somebody is going to pop out of the wood work and say how awful my choice in themes really is. To keep those people at bay I will only say… oh forget them. Camifox is a unique new look for Firefox, yet doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel.

Here is a little more about the theme from the designer:

Firefox 3, in living color. Camifox replaces Firefox’s monolithic toolbar buttons on Mac OS X (and the icons on Windows and Linux) with the bright, colorful icons from the Mozilla Camino browser, and it also makes the tab bar easier to read with higher contrast.

How does it look? Camifox, if I dare to say is a great looking theme in my opinion. Here is how it looks on Mac, Vista, XP and Linux:

You can pick Camifox up for yourself on the Firefox Add-ons web site. How do you feel about it, love it or hate it? (Having Problems? Try the Alternative Download Link!)

In a funny, yet surprising twist of fate it looks like the ZDNet guys found that using SunSpider JavaScript benchmark tests that Firefox 3 Beta 5 is faster than Safari 3.1… on a Mac!

That has to be a little ‘bit of an embarrassment for the Apple team but good news for all the Apple users out there that are looking forward to trying out and switching to Firefox 3 – once the final version hits the streets. Sure, the Safari wildebeests will say Firefox is only faster by a 7% margin but it is still a feather to be had in Mozilla’s proverbial cap.

Just think of all the people out there who have installed iTunes and either use it religiously or just have it to say they have it. Now think of all those people all of the sudden got a “magical gift” from Apple that included a free download of Safari the next time they did the Apple Software Update.

Many are pretty angry about Apple using it’s software updating service to push out updates for products people never downloaded. A lot of people are asking, “Well, why would they do this?”.

The answer is simple. They want an easy way into the browser wars. Ridding on the coat tails of Quick Time or iTunes, sneaking onto a person’s PC is the easiest way to do it. John Lilly (Mozilla’s CEO) had a very interesting write up on this worth checking out.

Lets just say, don’t be surprised if in a few months down the road the number of Safari users equals or is a little less than the number of iTunes users. Who would Safari be able to knock down the list? Opera or Firefox?

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Sure it has that “Apple-like” flavor, but even Windows or Linux users can pretend right? Trying my best to forget about the Appleness myself and just keep telling myself it is a cool brushed-metal looking theme. Over and over… till those dreams of Steve Jobs touching my Firefox goes away.
