The Super Essential Ultimate Unofficial MySpace Toolbar

1 How is that for a Firefox add-on name?  Alright, truth be told I might have added a little to it.  The toolbar’s name is really just the Ultimate MySpace Toolbar.  I think my name has a little more flare though.  This MySpace toolbar offers a lot of nice features including:

  • Easily navigate MySpace from anywhere on the web
  • Stay connected to MySpace.com with persistent login
  • Receive notifications with updating messages
  • Clean up messy profile pages with the “Simplify” button
  • Make your profile look good with My Space or Yours.net custom layouts
  • Navigate everything on your MySpace profile and other users MySpace profiles with dual menu controls
Ok, so where is the catch?  This MySpace toolbar is brought to you by the same people who developed Me.dium.  You get to merge two of the Web’s darlings, MySpace and Me.dium… kind of.  The MySpace toolbar comes with Me.dium’s Social Search, which they describe as “the world’s first crowd-powered search engine”.
It will help you keep your finger on the pulse of the entire internet with search results generated by what the crowds are surfing right now!  Just be careful for those oddball Firefox loving freaks out there on MySpace.

Me.dium Goals, Future and Praise

Me.dium InterviewMe.dium is one of those unique Firefox addons that delivers a service that none so far have been able to duplicate. Giving you a way to chat live with other people on the same page – the idea is simple, yet brilliant. I recently had the chance to get a quick interview in with David Mandell the founder and VP of Marketing at Me.dium.

Does it make you feel nervous at all that your success is so tied into the success of addons for the browser? You have clients for both Firefox and Internet Explorer, but what if addons sometime become “not so cool”.

Sure, industry change always makes us nervous. The key is to continually provide enough value for the user that cool transforms into indispensable. We are trying to provide a tremendous amount of information in a very small space, so there is always the possibility of looking at other ways to display the value, but at this point, the experience of surfing with your friends is so tied to where you are on the Internet, that a marriage between the browser and Me.dium makes sense.

Me.dium – Follow Your Friends

Me.diumSome of the new tools and services out there with the social kink in them have yet to really impress me. One of the few that does the job though and does it well is Me.dium. This service, along side the Firefox extension that comes with it is something I think everybody should try out.

The neat thing about Me.dium is it opens up an entire new world that many might not see behind the web site your visiting. Talking with others that might be on the same web page you are on is a neat experience. Also they give you recommendations of other web pages you should visit based on the one you are at right now too.

Browse with friends or make new ones, the possibilities for the future of this application are endless.

If you get tired of it or you don’t want to use it all the time, just click the browser icon to turn it on and off. The tool lives in your sidebar, so you don’t have to worry about messing up the layout or visual of the current web site you are on either.

There is a world behind each web site you visit, so get to exploring!
