Give Back to Firefox Add-on Developers

image

Haven’t you always wanted to give back to those Firefox add-on developers that have made your life easier?  Well, even if the thought hadn’t crossed your mind – you do have the ability to do so thanks to the new contributions feature on the Firefox Add-ons site.

How it works is a small widget gets shown on the specific add-on’s page and says something like, “The developer of this add-on asks that you help support its continued development by making a small contribution” then you can donate the suggested price or a different amount.

Nothing wrong with giving back a little to those out there who have made your browsing experience even better.

10 Great Money Saving Add-ons for Firefox

Firefox Add-ons to Save You Cash We can’t count on Uncle Sam to get us out of our economic woes, so who can we trust?  I say trust Firefox. It has never asked for a penny, and is always so reliable. With that said, what Firefox add-ons out there will help you save some money?  Here are my favorites:

RetailMeNot – Never miss a bargain again. Automatically informs you of sites that retailmenot.com users have shared discount coupon codes for.

Woot Watcher – Woot Watcher monitors the Woot! web site, and keeps you updated with the current item, price, and if it is sold out.

Price Protectr Toolbar – Price protect your purchases with a single click! Watch and target prices, find coupons, get retailer ratings, and improve your online shopping experience.

PriceDrop – An extension which helps you track Amazon product prices and get notifications when they drop.

PriceAdvance – Get price comparisons as you shop around the Web, so you can get the best deal.

Forex Currency Converter – Just click on any currency data on any web page to convert that amount across over 180 foreign exchange rates right on your screen.

KeepCash Coupon Notifier – Lightweight Firefox extension to notify you when online coupons exist for a site that you are shopping at.

Pronto Shopping Messenger – Instant price comparisons when you shop online via a small message window that alerts you of potential savings.

BuyBuddy – Locate products on those pages that are offered through Amazon and ‘tag’ them.

MoneyQuake – Moneyquake is a extension, which displays your real-time earning statistics from most popular advertisement systems (such as Google AdSense).

Know of another add-on that helps you keep a ‘bit more of the green stuff in your wallet?  If so, drop it into the comments.  We will just consider this an economic stimulus for us Firefox fans.

Use PayPal like a Credit Card

paypal-firefox-addon How would you like to be able to use PayPal anywhere and everywhere, even where it is not accepted?  At this point the PayPal people hope you are excited because that is what they would like to offer to you via a new Firefox plugin.

Once you get it up and running, a window should come up when you visit a web site asking for your credit card information. With this new Firefox extension, you now have the choice to pay via a card that PayPal creates for you or you can generate a card manually through a drop down menu.

Some of the other features include:

  • Use Secure Cards to shop anywhere online
  • Save and print your receipts
  • Enter addresses with 1 click during checkout
  • Avoid fraudulent web sites
  • Check your balance right from your browserOnly downside is this add-on is only for Firefox 2 right now.  I am sure it won’t take long for them to get it updated for Firefox 3 when the time is right.

To pickup the new Firefox PayPal Plug-in, you must login to your PayPal account, and then there should be a link to click on your left to “Use PayPal even where it is not accepted”.  Hopefully in the future, they will put this in an easier place to access.  All in all though, great idea if you are a heavy PayPal user.

  • Extensions That Will Save You Cash

Hey we all like to pinch pennies every once in a while, right?

For those of you out there who are still using Internet Explorer, there is another option that won’t open your computer to all sorts of security holes. Better yet, it will automatically kill most pop-up windows and, when you switch to it, it will incorporate all of your bookmarks from Internet Explorer. I switched years ago and it’s the best thing I ever did; in fact, I now get frustrated when I have to use Internet Explorer on other machines.
