Control Firefox With Your Wiimote

There is no question that Firefox was designed with extensibility in mind.  With it you can hack, modify and bend Firefox and web sites in many different ways to best suit your own needs.  With that said, how many people have wanted to control Firefox with the Nintendo Wii Wiimote?  With the Nintendo Wiimote driver, you can do it.

So, now the question is – what does it look like in action?

I do have to say, this is a very innovative idea.  Not sure if it is really practical, but shows that there are still a lot of creative minds out there tweaking around with what Firefox can do.

Bring the Legend of Zelda to Firefox

Zelda Theme for Firefox

Well, they did it with Mario – so why doesn’t the Legend of Zelda deserve a Firefox theme?  MoZelda (get it? Mozilla = MoZelda) is an awesome looking Firefox 3.5 theme that will be helping you battle Moblins before you know it.

With what looks to be some original art, mixed with some Link shots from the latest Zelda game, this theme is very visually appealing and colorful.  Also, it scores points with me because it is Zelda, probably one of my favorite video game franchises to date.

Grab the MoZelda theme while you can, before Gannon’s evil copyright lawyers come to ‘nab this treasure.

Another Firefox Trip to the Mushroom Kingdom

Mushroom Kingdom theme for Firefox

I can not get enough of the Mushroom Kingdom theme for Firefox.  In version two, a lot of the icon work has been re-done to make it even more colorful and unique.  As the author of the theme said, “All of the icons are new, but kept close to the originals to remain familiar to previous users.”  Personally, I like the changes.

This is a very worthy tribute to Nintendo for sure.  Go check out my thoughts on the previous Mushroom Kingdom theme for Firefox, or go grab this all-new edition!

Go Wii With Your Firefox

WiiFox theme for Firefox

Ready to make your Firefox browser a little more Wii-like?  WiiFox, a new theme for Firefox, is based on the highly popular video game system the Nintendo Wii.  It doesn’t really rip anything off directly, it just takes inspiration really from the Wii’s own internet browser and interface.

If you like the theme, be sure to let the developer know.  Since it is right now an “experimental” theme, I am sure feedback would be appreciated in any way you can give it. Savaden, the theme’s creator, is becoming a favorite of mine to watch – as he also brough us the Mushroom Kingdom Firefox theme too.  You can pick up the WiiFox theme on the Firefox Add-ons site.

Another Mario Firefox Theme

Looks like somebody else has tried to put up a fresh new theme inspired by the local population of the Mushroom Kingdom.  You have Mario, Luigi and the rest of the gang here.  I have to say this is a beautiful piece of work.  Makes me so happy I could go bust brick with my head until I find a surprise.

There is a lot to love about this new Mario theme for Firefox.  For example:

Mario Icons Explained

This is not the first Mario inspired Firefox theme, there have been several others:

So you had better grab the MushroomKingdom theme before it gets taken down due to trademark concerns and Nintendo’s lawyers.  You can download the MushroomKingdom theme (while you can) via the Firefox Add-ons web site.  To check out more of the author’s Firefox theme work, check out his own site at savaden’s designs.

2574605147_b6ed51c6a5 1-UP JUST FOR YOU!  Just in case it gets taken down, I’ll go ahead and host a mirror here of the MushroomKingdom theme for you to enjoy.  Just unzip and then drop it into Tools > Addons > Themes.  Just make sure you beat Bowser there before he takes it to another castle.

FireNes – Nintendo on your Browser

A somewhat questionable Firefox addition, FireNes promises to deliver you more than 2,500 Nintendo games in your browser.  After doing some research, it appears this addon is fetching games from another online Java powered NES emulator.  Controls are limited to arrow keys, Enter, Ctrl, Z and X – but hey what do you expect?

They are just Nintendo games after all.

You can pickup the add-on via Mozilla’s web site (after registration) or via Softonic.  If your looking for the same thing though without the extension, try these sites:

http://www.nintendo8.com/

Enjoy it while it last, cause I am sure it may not last for long.  Ohh and when Mario and the Mushroom Kingdom police come knocking at your door don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Firefox Mentioned in Super Smash Bros. Brawl?

180px-Fox_070611a-l Seems like no matter where I turn, Firefox follows me everywhere! Thumbing through the instruction book for Super Smash Bros. Brawl – I noticed one of Fox’s names (from Star Fox) for his signature moves was a little familiar.

His “up” special move is called Fire Fox. Now the fan boy inside of me would like to think this is a nod to the fine folks at Mozilla from Nintendo but it is probably not the case.

Tell me this though, when was there a mention of Internet Explorer as an awesome move in a video game? Chances are, if there was it would involve a crash* for sure.

* – sorry, couldn’t resist!
