Firefox Got Your Back

I Got Your Back! No, I’m not talking browser ghetto slang, I am talking about the new project I found out about on Spread Firefox. It is a pretty neat concept. Here is how they put it, as I am afraid my explanation of it might confuse some.

Our page is set-up so that users can come and ‘fill in’ the Firefox logo by claiming a pixel. They can use their spot on the logo to express themselves and to shoutout to the world about anyone who has got their back.

Join in on the fun! I’d like nothing more than to bring these people a few more pixels in. Also see if you can find me (I’m the guy with the coconut and hammer) – and include as the guy that “told you” about Firefox. Just type in Mitch.

Automatic Photo Slideshow

When viewing photos or pictures Online, there has to be a better way to do it. I don’t want to have to scroll down the page looking at thumbnails.

That is so 2001! There has to be a more efficient way of getting this simple job done.

There is and it’s name is AutoSlideshow. The AutoSlideshow extension for Firefox allows you to view graphics on a Web page in a little “photo player”. Here is what the author of the extension has to say about it.

AutoSlideshow allows you to view slideshows of images of web pages or images linked to from web pages. This is mainly useful for viewing images of a page with no possibility for image browsing.

Auto Slideshow

Right now it has special support for: wikipedia, google, yahoo, facebook.com and studivz.net. As time goes by I could see a lot of areas where this simple extension could expand and get even better.

Quicker Searching for Pictures

I am always searching graphics and pictures Online, and sometimes I get tired of using Google’s image search. There are better engines out there for image searches. One of them that I have grown to love is picsearch. They now have their own Firefox extension as well that makes searching for graphics on the Web as easy as it can get.

Well, think of the Internet as your haunted house, and Floating Link Preview as your flash light. This Greasemonkey script gives you a nice thumbnail image whenever you hover over any link to let you know what is behind that link.

Book Of Mozilla Easter Egg

Easter eggs hidden away inside of programs is nothing new. What I didn’t know till this morning was that even Firefox has a few tricks up it’s sleeves.

It was a lot of fun to read but one thing that really struck me as interesting was this about:mozilla “Easter Egg” that they mention. The Book of Mozilla has been something that even the first version of Netscape has had in it. You can pull it up in Firefox/Netscape by typing in about:mozilla into the Address Bar and pressing Enter.

Firefox in the Stars

Now I am not a big fan of posts for the sake of posting, but this photo just seemed a little too weird. I had to spread the word about it. The picture is of a nebula recently discovered in deep space around the time that Firefox 0.8 was released. It looks like the Firefox logo.

Then again, if you look at anything long enough, it will look like the Firefox logo. I could have sworn I saw it this morning in my cereal too!
