Looking for an alternative way to manage your bookmarks? ViewMarks might be the solution.

This interesting extension for Firefox will give you customizable thumbnail previews for all of your favorite links.

The idea behind ViewMarks is a simple one. It gives you an easy and alternative way to organize and use the bookmarks you might visit every single day. Upon the creation of a bookmark, a preview image is captured and saved to the browser. You can then use the webpage view of the add-on to navigate through them, organize them, copy them, edit them and more. It gives you a better visual representation of all your saved links.

Here is a little more about the add-on from the developer:

You can open different bookmark folder in different tabs and directly link to them. Missing preview images are automatically captured when opening a bookmarked web page. All preview images can also be copied to the clipboard and loaded from file.

Give it a shot, if you are looking for a more visual way to navigate through your own collection of saved bookmarks. You can pick up ViewMarks from the Firefox Add-ons website, or learn more about the project from codepad.de.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

With Firefox 3.6’s release, we can all do a quick about:config tweak that will enable the prettier tab switching. By default, when you hit the keyboard keys Ctrl + Tab you just rotate through your tabs. By making some quick adjustments though, you can pull up the new tab switcher that you see in the picture above.

How to Enable Firefox’s Secret Visual Tab Switcher

Type about:config in the address bar. Then, if needed click the “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button.

Next, in the filter box – type in:

browser.ctrlTab.previews

Right-click that about:config entry, and select “Toggle”

Now, when you hit the keyboard combination of Ctrl + Tab you will get the new visual tab previews, rather than just scroll through the tabs one by one. If you want to switch back, just follow the same steps to toggle it from true, back to false.

Interclue for Firefox kind of excites me because I think they are trying to do a good job with a browsing idea that really hasn’t been my cup of tea yet, the “thumbnail preview”. One positive is that they say it stays out of your way when you do not need it – which is my argument against other extensions like this. As you can see in the preview, they offer more than just your standard screenshot of the next page too.

Here is how the developers of the extension describe it:

Interclue displays useful information and relevant next actions for almost any link on the web. Clueview tooltips are not like other previews, they show you only the most relevant content straight from the page, rather than relying on small cached snapshots or large scrolling windows.

This could either be a really helpful tool or an annoying clutter feature that drives me batty after 3 minutes of use. I think different people may take different things away from it. if you enjoy the idea of having a sort of “picture in picture” preview with some other handy links give Interclue for Firefox a shot.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Real-time preview of tab contents

Navigate (Back/Forward/Reload/Stop) through popup

Click links or buttons directly in preview

Often mistaken as ads, Snap’s obnoxious link previews are quickly becoming something you either really love or really hate. Well now you have the option to opt in or opt out of having them on the Web sites you visit.

All you need to do is visit this section of their FAQ and click a link. Disabling this on your own browser places a cookie on your system, but if you want a quick fix – this will do nicely. No extensions needed.

Really this should work – no matter what browser you are running. Since it is a nice tip though, I figured all the Firefox Facts fans should know about it.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Now this is nothing new and I have seen it before, but the GooglePreview extension for Firefox might do it the best. What am I talking about? Well, first let me ask you a question. Wouldn’t it be nice to see thumbnails next to your search results in Google? I think it would be nice – and that is what this extension will do for you.

Inserts preview images (thumbnails) of web sites and Amazon products into the Google and Yahoo search results pages. When you use GooglePreview and click on an Amazon link within the search results, you support me and the further development of the extension and back end if you actually purchase a product.

+ Download and Install the GooglePreview Extension for Firefox!
