I thought I would start the week off with helping you make Firefox faster. Now, there are no about:config tweaks or any other “under the hood” changes that need to be made. Instead, we are going to save time by speeding up repetitive tasks. FastestFox might be the best add-on for Firefox for getting this done.
Want to be able to track your productivity?
RescueTime, an add-on for Firefox will give you tons of analytical data on how, when and why you browse so you can do exactly that.
Split Browser, the add-on for Firefox, splits up the content area of the browser in as many windows as you like. Each window you see, also has its own mini browser inside.
This is a really helpful extension for those people out there that work on multiple pages at the same time and down want to have two Firefox windows open side by side or don’t want to switch between tabs. There are several ways you can decide to split your window too.
Ways to become more productive by splitting up your browser…
- Choose the "Split Browser to" menu in the context menu.
- Choose the "Load in Split Browser" menu in the context menu on link.
- Click popup-button on top/bottom/left/right edges of the content area.
- Drop links, bookmarks, etc. to popup-button on top/bottom/left/right edges of the content area while dragging.
There is no limit to the number of windows you can open inside of your browser. Of course, adding too many might get a little on the silly side. Click the picture to your right to see an example of the madness that can happen with a few too many windows open.
Another great use for this, would be to view one page normally, and then load up a mobile or sidebar-friendly page and squeeze it down so everything fits in nicely. You can pick up the Split Browser add-on for Firefox on the Firefox Add-ons web site or learn more about it on the official Split Browser web site.
Thanks to some of the best bookmarklets out there on the Web, I feel like I have become a more organized and productive person. With the new year heading in, I figured this might be a good time to remind you to clean out the junk in your Firefox links bar and add some new things that might also help you become a better browser via your browser.
I love StumbleUpon as much as the next guy, but the toolbar they provide is quickly becoming cluttered with stuff I don’t really care about viewing.
If you find yourself as a user of Gmail sending a lot of stuff back and forth to friends, this is a bookmarklet that is as handy as any extension out there. Get a pop up window with an e-mail ready to go with the link of the web site you are on. You could use it right now to send this article over to Bob down the street. Go ahead and do it, I promise he won’t mind.
This service makes it super easy to get to sharing just about anything at just about all the biggest bookmarking and social link sharing web sites out there. Digg, delicious, and more. Continue Reading →
Those wacky (yet helpful) folks over at CyberNet News have come out with another nice list of Firefox extensions that will help you become a little more productive. Hey, we all need help from time to time on this – so this is a nice list for anybody to check out.
