Here is a little more about the add-on from the developer:

Now you can edit the Firefox Menu and change it to your personal and powerful one! Personal Menu provides you a couple of new helpful items that available to be put into Firefox Menu: Bookmark Items, History Items, Configuration(about:config), Restart. In addition, you may create toolbar-box (let you put toolbar-buttons inside), sub-menus and split-menus to organize your Firefox Menu!

To sum things up, if you are one of those people who thought, "Well, this menu item would be a lot better over here" or "Why is there no easy way to get to that feature" then this add-on was designed for you. This add-on gives you the most control (in comparison to other add-ons like it) when it comes to really customizing everything that is shown under the Firefox button.

You can pick up the Personal Menu add-on from the Firefox Add-ons website.

                                                                                Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Finding your browsing to be a little cramped? Want some room to stretch your legs or just see more of the web page you might be currently visiting? FlexBar, a new add-on for Firefox, will give you all the screen space saving tools and resources you need at the touch of a button.

Once FlexBar has been installed, you can very easily configure the visibility of all your menu bars, sidebars, and information bars in Firefox. You can choose to always show, never show or just hide any toolbar in the Firefox interface too.

Now sure, a lot of what you can do with this extension, you could do by hand – fumbling through the Firefox settings. The thing FlexBar tries to do right, is it gives you a single location to minimize the Firefox interface.

Here is a little more about the FlexBar add-on, from the developer:

Optionally you can display additional small buttons on left side of the Tab Bar. The navigation buttons offer an identical functionality to the buttons in the Navigation Toolbar. This way a quick page navigation is possible, even when the Navigation Toolbar is hidden. Additionally, there are buttons for quick access to the menu bar and the bookmarks toolbar. This way, even without auto-hide active you can save space by hiding the menu bar and the bookmarks toolbar.

Overall, I like this add-on for Firefox. Anything that gives me more room to browse and customizes the Firefox interface for me is definitely a good thing. You can pick up FlexBar on the Firefox Add-ons web site.

                                                                                Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

If you are a user of the Stylish extension, you will love this little tip. I use iGoogle, however I never stay on the page long enough to use the embedded chat they included a while back. However I am happy to say I found a solution.

Install this Stylish user style:

Hide iGoogle Chat Tab on iGoogle Home Page

Once doing so, the chat (as you seen in the screenshot above) disappears. To make it work for me, I had to change:

http://www.google.com/ig?hl=en

to

http://www.google.com/ig

However, once that was done – it worked flawlessly. An easy hack for a very lovable web page. Got to love these Stylish user styles!

                                                                                Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

I got an e-mail from a reader of Firefox Facts, and they wanted to know how can you re-organize your search engines in Firefox’s search box that lives in most people upper-right hand corner of Firefox.

This can easily be done via the built in search engine manager.

Click on Firefox’s search box, as if you were going to change search engines, and look at the bottom for a menu selection titled, “Manage Search Engines”. Clicking it will bring up the Manage Search Engine List. From here you can:

Edit Search Engine Keywords

Move Search Engines Up or Down

Remove a Search Engine

Restore the Default Search Engines

Get More Search Engines

Enable/Disable the “Show Search Suggestions”

There you have it. Now Firefox has not always had this option. Back in previous versions, you had to do some heavy duty hunting and pecking to really edit and organize your search engine selections. This at least gives you a more user friendly interface, and I am all about the user friendly around here.

                                                                                Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Why does Firefox have that little resizer corner thingy? The one that rests in your status bar, on the far right side. I am not even sure what to call it. It has no point, because I can grab Firefox from all four corners to resize it to the size I want. So the question remains – how do I remove it?

I now turn towards my favorite Firefox modification tool, Stylish to do the job for me. Go check out ffox 3 no resize”thing” in the lower right corner and load that into Stylish (or Greasemonkey). Now, you should have a little more status bar room.

As an extra bonus, if you want to make your status bar appear more flat, and remove the borders between things – copy and paste this into Stylish.

/* ::::: flat statusbar ::::: */
.db_downbar, statusbarpanel, .statusbarpanel-iconic,
  .statusbarpanel-iconic-text, .statusbarpanel-menu-iconic,
.progressmeter-statusbar, progressmeter {
  -moz-appearance: none !important;
  border: none !important;}

Credit for that tip goes to the mozillaZine forums. Doing so should remove the junk and leave things with a cleaner look.

                                                                                Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Ever have a Firefox add-on that just did not want to leave your PC? Most of the extensions to Firefox are really easy to remove, however sometimes you run into a situation where one is so bad or tricky, it just doesn’t want to let go. Here are some of the common ways to remove an add-on from Firefox.

The Traditional Way

The way you usually uninstall add-ons from Firefox is to go to Tools and then Add-ons from the menu bar. In the next Window, you should see your extensions (if not, hit the “Extensions” tab at the top). Now click on the one you wish to remove, and hit the button labeled “Uninstall”. You can do this several times if you need to get rid of several add-ons. Now, simply restart Firefox and your add-on in question should be removed.

Try Removing the Add-on via Safe Mode

Close out Firefox, and start up using Firefox’s safe mode. Try to use the traditional steps above then to remove the addon that is bugging you.

Checkout Add/Remove Programs

This might change some (depending on what version of Windows you are using) but these general directions should get you to the right spot. Click on the start menu (or windows globe) and go to the control panel. From there, you want to go to the “Add/Remove Programs” settings. Scroll down this list and see if you see the extension in question here that you can not remove via Firefox. Some toolbars and add-ons install themselves here, rather than the traditional add-ons menu from inside of Firefox.

Last (but not least) Remove the Add-on Manually

You can also remove add-ons manually, but I would leave this as a last resort. You will need to navigate to your Firefox profile folder. Once you make it there, look for a folder called “extensions”. Inside of that folder, you will see more folders with names that look like random ‘bit of text thrown together. Each folder represents an extension that has been installed. Go through each folder, and look for install.rdf. Open that up in your standard notepad program and it should tell you the name of the extension you are looking at. If you can’t find it, search the install.rdf for the phrase “em:name”. After that, the name of the extension should be given. You may also find a few themes inside this folder too. Once you find an install.rdf that matches that addon you want to remove, you can delete that extensions entire folder.

As you noticed, this pretty much covered things for the Windows people to some extent. If any Apple or Linux fans want to let me know how they do things, please drop in a comment and share with the group!

More of a pain than a savior, the toolbar the toolbar tip floating boxes of help and information in Firefox tend to hurt me more than help me. Yes, I know the reload button allows me to reload the current page, I got it!

If you want to disable this feature, follow these steps:

Step 1: In your address bar, type in about:config

Step 2: If given a warning, tell Firefox you promise to be nice. Now type this into your Filter search box at the top:

browser.chrome.toolbar_tips

Step 3: Now only one result should be showing up. Right-click where it says “browser.chrome.toolbar_tips” and select “Toggle”. You want to turn this from True to False. (If you want them back, just toggle it again to turn this feature back on). Now you can go ahead and get back to your browsing.

There you have it, no more annoying popup tips coming your way getting in the way of your browser thanks to our good ol’ buddy, about:config.

There is nothing wrong with the Go button and there is nothing wrong with those who like it. Hey, if I had a reason to use it – I would. Thankfully though, I have an enter key, which in turn does pretty much the same thing. Banish the Go button from your installation of Firefox 2!

What do you need to do? Well just type “about:config” and scroll down till you see this:

browser.urlbar.hideGoButton

Then change it from false to true. That’s right, get Firefox your way with just a few clicks.

                                                                                Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!
