If so – you might want to check out the new LikeJournal add-on for Firefox. This add-on (plus website service) will create a searchable database of all the links you like via the Facebook like button.

LikeJournal’s main job is to help you keep track of both your own Facebook likes and those of your friends’ too. It saves them all as social bookmarks, so yu can easily search and browse them in a single click.

The way this works is simple. You only need to log into LikeJournal website. After that, your likes from Facebook will be instantly pulled in and indexed so you can browse and search them through the extension or LikeJournal website. From then on – each new link you like will be added to your link list on LikeJournal.com. Even if you are without a like button on the website you are browsing, you can use the power of the LikeJournal add-on to share and archive any link, any time.

If you like (pun intended) both Firefox and Facebook, then you should give LikeJournal a shot. You can download this add-on from the Firefox Add-ons website.

                                                                                Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Looking to make Amazon a little better? Look no further, because I have found the perfect Greasemonkey user script for you to use.

Better Amazon promises to make your Amazon shopping even better in a number of ways. If you shop on Amazon a lot, this is a great companion to the browser.

This user script is a must-have for heavy duty Amazon.com shoppers. It will remove ads, cleans the overall layout of the web page, makes sections collapsible, adds the Amazon average rating to the title, and does a much better job at packing a lot of information onto the screen without the need to keep scrolling down.

Here are the current features, as detailed by the user script author:

All features of the (somewhat) popular script ‘Amazon Average Rating’;

Make sections collapsible to provide a cleaner environment;

User’s preferences of leaving some sections open is remembered;

Remove or minimizes ads such as ‘related services in the city’, ‘related external websites’;

Remove some fixed sections which are not very useful such as the Feedback section and the navigation footer;

Decrease the width of and add gray background to full reviews so they are both easier to read and easier on the eyes.

You can download and install the Better Amazon script for Greasemonkey out at the userscripts.org web site.

                                                                                Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

For years now, I have been highlighting the best Firefox add-ons out there for you all to check out and use, if needed. However, not often do I go that extra mile to help you replace an add-on that I don’t think is that handy to have. Amazingly enough, ImTranslator is an add-on that have enjoyed a lot of popularity (3,875,310 downloads to be exact) however I think there is a better solution out there, that doesn’t even need an add-on for Firefox to be used.

One of the reasons I do not like ImTranslator is it looks junky. It is riddled with advertisements, such I understand is great for when it comes to making money – however, I don’t think they serve a purpose inside of a Firefox add-on. Now, let us move on to what I think you should use instead.

What Replaces ImTranslator?

Just bookmark the Google Translate web site. I have been using Google Translate for many years to help translate text and it has never let me down. While the translations are not perfect (no translation tool ever is) it does the closest job, from what I have seen. To use it, all you have to do is copy and paste the text you wish to translate, select what language it is in, what language you want to translate to, and then hit the button labeled, “Translate”.

By using Google Translate instead of ImTranslator, you not only save clutter from your Firefox add-on installs, but you also gain access to one of the best free translation tools out there today. Using the tools they provide, you can also get a bookmarklet that does a one-click translation of any web site into the language you wish to read.

So, let me know what you think. Is Google Translate a suitable replacement for ImTranslator or do you think ImTranslator is still a better translating solution?

                                                                                Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Another jewel in the ruff I discovered when browsing around the Mozilla add-ons site was SmarterFox. What does this add-on to the browser do for you? It helps make browsing the web just that much faster…and smarter!

Where are the features? Here are some of the thinks I liked about this awesome add-on to your browser:

Search by selecting/highlighting text and then clicking on the popup bubble

Google results automatically show up in the Awesomebar/URL bar as you type (faster than going to google.com)

Easily switch between search engines during a search with a single click

Convert text URLs into clickable links

Automatically copy on select / paste on middle click / paste on right click (NOT enabled by default)

Visit bookmarks quickly with keyboard shortcuts using qLauncher

Adds "related articles" side-pane to Wikipedia

There is definitely a lot of browser tweaking to be loved here. It is that type of extension that does many things well, instead of focusing on doing one thing really well. So if you would like to kill several birds with on stone – this is the pick me up your browser has been looking for.

Want to give it a shot? Pickup SmarterFox on the Mozilla add-ons site and let me know what you think. Has it helped you browse the Web any faster or smarter?

                                                                                Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

Using what they call cutting-edge artificial intelligence, the Pluribo add-on of Firefox promises to deliver you instant summaries of any Amazon.com web page you are viewing on the Web. Why read the entire review, when you can get the proverbial cliff notes this way?

How does Pluribo: Instant Summeries work?

Well, essentially Pluribo does exactly what you’d do if you had the time: it reads every word, learns what people liked and disliked, and then figures out the key lessons. But, unlike a person, Pluribo does this automatically. So it can fetch you the bottom line at light speed– freeing up your day to enjoy the finer things in life.

This plugin shows a lot of promise. I too, like many of you, do a lot of shopping on Amazon and most of the review are usually pretty handy to have when it comes to comparing products. Of course you take it with a grain of salt, but there is no doubt that it helps and this add-on just speeds up that process of skimming over reviews.

Pluribo: Instant Summaries shows a lot of promise, but I would like to see the tool work on more than just Amazon. I want to see it work everywhere!

                                                                                Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Firefox Facts Facebook Fan Page!

The folks over at Download Squad have a nice little write up about Reminder Fox, the scheduler and to do list extension for Firefox.

I like what they had to say so much – I figured it wouldn’t hurt to share some of it here.

I’m somewhat of a productivity zealot and I love any application that helps me stay on task. Reminder Fox is designed to do just that. One of the better Firefox extensions I’ve found, Reminder Fox sits quietly in the bottom left corner of the browser and lets you manage a to do list and schedule reminders.

Firefox 2 RC2 has only been out a little while, and it seems like the reviews are so far all positive. The only disappointment I have seen across the board is the way it handles RSS feeds, but hey – I am sure they will get better with time. If not, that is the beauty of Firefox, somebody can write an extension to fix it if they don’t like it. With that said, I figured you would all enjoy taking a look at the side by side comparisons arstechnica did of RC1 and RC2 of Firefox 2.

It seems like all of the big three (Firefox, Opera and Internet Explorer) keep trying to out perform the next one. Now we have seen dozens of reviews looking at all three. This time around though I want to point you to an article on Firefox 1.5 versus Opera 9. The author makes a lot of valid points, and there is a lot of good non-bias information within.
