Organize Your Downloads in Firefox

I like to download all of my stuff that I find via the Web into a folder in My Documents called “Downloads”. It is an easy way for me to keep track of stuff I have downloaded so I can save it for later if I need to do so.

How can you tell Firefox to save all of your downloads in one specific spot? First thing you need to do is go into Tools, and then select Options. A new window should pop up with your browser options. In that first tab, go down to the middle of the box where it says “Downloads” and then make your way down to the browse button next to the Window for “Save files to…”.

Download Options

Browse to the folder that you wish to save all of your downloads to, save and then exit. Now Firefox knows your default download location. This is really handy when you wonder what that program was you downloaded last week – or if you misplace an important file from the Web, you can keep a backup of it here.

Save Your Sessions

Are you enjoying yourself so much in your current browsing setup – open tabs and all – and don’t want to forget about this moment? Well you could take a picture, because we all know they last longer or you could download the Save Session extension for Firefox.

With Save Session, you can choose to save the current session and close Firefox for the next startup. This works best if you USUALLY want to launch Firefox with your default homepages or blank page but SOMETIMES want to start with the previous session.

Backup Your Bookmarks

Are you in need of a quick and easy way of backing up your Firefox bookmarks? If you are, look no further than the Foxmarks extension.

If you use Firefox on more than one computer, you’ll want Foxmarks. Install Foxmarks on each computer, and it will work silently in the background to keep your bookmarks synchronized. As a bonus, log in to my.foxmarks.com from any computer anywhere to access your bookmarks.

Out of all the alternatives out there, this one rates, at least, in my personal top five. They have been around for a while now, I have never heard a complaint about them and it is totally free. How can you say no to that?

Extensions That Will Save You Cash

Hey we all like to pinch pennies every once in a while, right?

For those of you out there who are still using Internet Explorer, there is another option that won’t open your computer to all sorts of security holes. Better yet, it will automatically kill most pop-up windows and, when you switch to it, it will incorporate all of your bookmarks from Internet Explorer. I switched years ago and it’s the best thing I ever did; in fact, I now get frustrated when I have to use Internet Explorer on other machines.

Save as Image

When it comes to saving things from the Web, it has been a long time since I have seen a good tool that allows you to save images. Everything pretty much does the same old stuff. There is nothing new, exciting or different under the sun. Well, that was the case till I checked out the Save As Image Firefox extension.
