Firefox Scrolling Tips

How do you quickly scroll to the top or the bottom of a webpage? While we might often think of the mouse’s scroll wheel as a pretty default “duh-like” answer – there are other and maybe better ways to get the job done in Firefox.

Keyboard Tip – The first scrolling tip I have to share with you is related to the pictures you see above. You can hit the Home key on your keyboard to go to the top of a webpage, and the end key on your keyboard to navigate your way to the bottom of a webpage very quickly.

Now, for the super handy extension to save the day.

The Scroll to Top/Bottom add-on for Firefox gives you a few more ways to do this same task. You can either do it from the buttons in Firefox’s navigation toolbar or you can go up and down from the right-click menu.

You can pick up the Scroll to Top/Bottom add-on for Firefox from the Firefox Add-ons website.

RichScrollbar

No this scrollbar does not help you earn cash. I don’t think Google AdSense has figured out a way to put ads on the scrollbar yet. This RichScrollbar extension promises to deliver a more feature rich experience in your everyday browsing.

So what does it do?

This extension add to scrollbars some buttons to simplify common scrolling operations, actually only one button is present allowing scrolling to the top/bottom of the page. The button is present in main browser pages, text areas and list boxes.

I know some people hate it, I try not to worry myself personally over it – but it is something we all have to deal with on a day to day basis. Scrolling up and down can be a workload that our index finger just does not need. Think if your index finger could talk, what would it say?

It would probably tell you to download the Back to Top extension for Firefox!

Back to Top helps navigate long pages. Go to the top or bottom of a page with a single click. Using right clicks and control clicks you can scroll a page or line at a time. Version 4.0 allows you to map the clicks any way you like. With drag and drop, the statusbar icons can be ergonomically arranged.

Modify Tab Scrolling

I found this little jewel via Lifehacker:

The one Firefox 2 feature that hasn’t grown on me is tab scrolling – left and right arrow buttons that appear at either end of the tab bar when you’ve opened up too many tabs to view at once.

Slim Extensions List

Tired of having to scroll and scroll just to see all of the extensions you have installed in Firefox? Well, then you need to pick up the Slim Extension List extension. I know, you are thinking, “I don’t need another extension to add to the list!”, but I promise you this one makes the pain go away. It shortens the entries for each extension so that they don’t take up so much space. Click on the extension in question, and the box expands to show you more information.
