Go Wii With Your Firefox

WiiFox theme for Firefox

Ready to make your Firefox browser a little more Wii-like?  WiiFox, a new theme for Firefox, is based on the highly popular video game system the Nintendo Wii.  It doesn’t really rip anything off directly, it just takes inspiration really from the Wii’s own internet browser and interface.

If you like the theme, be sure to let the developer know.  Since it is right now an “experimental” theme, I am sure feedback would be appreciated in any way you can give it. Savaden, the theme’s creator, is becoming a favorite of mine to watch – as he also brough us the Mushroom Kingdom Firefox theme too.  You can pick up the WiiFox theme on the Firefox Add-ons site.

Keeping it Simple with the Elementary Theme

Featured in the lightest popular theme collection I did a few months back, the Elementary Theme for Firefox has grown on me.  Perhaps I like it because it is nice and simple?

The Elementary Theme is the official Firefox theme for the Elementary project.  Here is a little more about that project from the official web site:

The elementary project was started in January of 2008. It takes it roots from the Macesque icon set developed by Daniel Fore. In response to the ever popular oxygen and appeal projects for KDE, Fore sought to create something to unify the GTK desktop. Shortly after the 1.0 release of elementary icons, the project began to grow exponentially to incorporate themes for several window managers, a GTK 2 theme, a Firefox 2 theme, and a uSplash theme.

I am all for making things simpler, cleaner and clearer.  You can pick up the Elementary Theme for yourself on the Firefox Add-ons site.

Firefox Coming Apart at the Seams Wallpaper

I’ve gone over how difficult it is to find Firefox-themed wallpaper that is really worth my time.  With that said, I have hit another lucky jackpot with this great widescreen selection. Here you have it:

The full size of the wallpaper is 1920×1200, so should be more than big enough to be resized to fit your own desktop needs.  Want more? Check out:  http://www.firefoxfacts.com/tag/wallpaper/

Pour a Black Glaze on Firefox

If you are in search for a new dark theme to replace your Christmas themed one you got last week, have no fear – I have a good one for you.  Glaze Black is a simple and flat theme for Firefox.  Oh, did I mention it is black too?  You can oooooh and awww at the screenshot below:

As you can see, it has a very simple look and feel to it (which is something I like to look for in a theme, personally).  You can pick it up on the Firefox Add-ons web site and be sure to stop by and see the creator of the theme at theme-oasis.org.

As a ‘bit of an extra tip – you can pick up a white version of this same theme here.

LumiNight Theme for Firefox

While browsing through some of the experimental themes, I happened to run across another one of the best dark themes I have seen in a while.  LumiNight has a very eye appealing look and feeling to it, as you can see here bellow.

Here is a little more from the developer:

The goal of LumiNight is to be modern & dark, with icons that can be understood easily at a glance. I went into it trying to avoid gloss-overkill and shiny orbs. This theme tries to be as straight-forward as possible, while appealing to those that like a darker theme.

This theme is brought to us by the same great designer who brought us the MushroomKingdom theme from a few weeks ago.  Personally, I hope they keep up the great work!  You can pick it up on the Firefox Add-ons site.  Now the only question I have though is when will we see LumiDay?

A New (Simple) Face for an Old Google Reader

screen

Can you believe that is Google Reader?  Nah, me neither.  There has to be some sort of oddball voodoo magic going on here, right?  What?  You say it is a Greasemonkey script?  Helvetireader breaks Google Reader down to just the things you need.  I true, “Woah, that is awesome” fashion – the userscript creator also encourages people to customize the CSS and make it their own.  (found via Lifehacker)

Lightest Popular Themes for Firefox 3

Light is a word of many meanings.  It could be the lightest in color or the lightest in its impact on the interface of your browser.  I have done my best to find the lightest popular Firefox 3 themes that would fit into either dictionary definition.

Whitehart – I never did use this theme until I was looking for a simple one for my Kubuntu install of Firefox on my laptop.  Haven’t looked back since!  Very sleek, light and simple.

Chromiefox – Now I am not usually a big fan of the knock-off themes, but I do have to say the Google Chrome interface is pretty nice.  Bring it to Firefox with this download.

Qute – An old one, but still a good one.  Qute is simple and unobtrusive with clear, colorful icons.

Aero Silver Fox – Silver counts as a light color, right?  Just like it’s cousin on our darkest popular themes list (Aero Fox) this theme deserves a spot too.

iFox Graphite – When coming up with this list, I made myself a promise before I started – only include one Mac-looking theme.  All Apple inspired themes are light, so here is the one I picked.

Full Flat – This may be the lightest and simplest theme out there for Firefox today.  Full Flat keeps it simple, but if you enjoy minimalistic and flat browsing, here you go.

Full Flat for Firefox

hmmXP – Based on the hmmXP theme for Windows by Fugacious, hmmXP for Firefox 3 uses simple, flat and small icons, and does away with gradients and rounded corners.

Elementary Theme – Yes, elementary my dear Firefox fan boy.  This theme is the official theme for Firefox of the Elementary Project.  Simple, light and doesn’t get in the way.

iPox – There is no doubt that iPox is an easy on the eyes, white and blue theme for Firefox.  One of the best examples of creativity and originality by far.

Naver – If you can use green and make a simple theme, you are my new best friend.  A new theme on the block, Naver ads just a hint of color and then keeps the rest pretty simple.

Which theme from the light side is your favorite?  Why do we love or hate the lighter themes out there today?  Let me know what you think.  Also don’t forget to check out the darkest popular themes for Firefox too.

hmmXP Theme for Firefox 3

Based around the hmmXP visual style for Windows, the hmmXP theme for Firefox gives you something familiar (that sort of Windows 9x look) with just a touch of visual appeal.  The theme is compact, but doesn’t feel as if everything is squeezed in just for the sake of squeezing it in.

As said by the author of this awesome theme, a lot of love has been put into it, so that it looks great in any windows theme.  If you want to pick it up, you can grab it on the Firefox Add-ons site or visit the official hmmXP theme site to get the latest version.

Turn Firefox into Netscape Communicator

Here is a retro theme for you, make Firefox go back in time to the Netscape era:

foxscape.

Foxscape is a full featured retro theme for Firefox based on Netscape Communicator 4.8 on Windows.  To be honest, I never did use the old Netscape very much.  Never did like the look of it.  You know what?  Now I can not like the look of it again!

foxscape2

I am sure this theme will tug on the classic heart strings of somebody out there.  If your missing the first generation of the browser wars, and you want to relive being the loser – give Foxscape a shot.
