Me.dium – Follow Your Friends

Me.diumSome of the new tools and services out there with the social kink in them have yet to really impress me. One of the few that does the job though and does it well is Me.dium. This service, along side the Firefox extension that comes with it is something I think everybody should try out.

The neat thing about Me.dium is it opens up an entire new world that many might not see behind the web site your visiting. Talking with others that might be on the same web page you are on is a neat experience. Also they give you recommendations of other web pages you should visit based on the one you are at right now too.

Browse with friends or make new ones, the possibilities for the future of this application are endless.

If you get tired of it or you don’t want to use it all the time, just click the browser icon to turn it on and off. The tool lives in your sidebar, so you don’t have to worry about messing up the layout or visual of the current web site you are on either.

There is a world behind each web site you visit, so get to exploring!

Socially Share it Everywhere

Share it Everywhere! Are you a Shareaholic? If so – you need help.

The Shareaholic extension for Firefox makes it easy for you to submit the web page you’re viewing to digg, del.icio.us, facebook, google bookmarks, reddit and stumbleupon. If you prefer, you can also e-mail the web page to a friend.

There are a lot of social engines out there – are you sharing with them all? Usually folks pick one or two services and stick with them, but if you want to use them all then this is the Firefox extension for you. If you need a web site to start sharing, how about FirefoxFacts.com?

Firefox Got Your Back

I Got Your Back! No, I’m not talking browser ghetto slang, I am talking about the new project I found out about on Spread Firefox. It is a pretty neat concept. Here is how they put it, as I am afraid my explanation of it might confuse some.

Our page is set-up so that users can come and ‘fill in’ the Firefox logo by claiming a pixel. They can use their spot on the logo to express themselves and to shoutout to the world about anyone who has got their back.

Join in on the fun! I’d like nothing more than to bring these people a few more pixels in. Also see if you can find me (I’m the guy with the coconut and hammer) – and include as the guy that “told you” about Firefox. Just type in Mitch.

Foxiewire Social Link Sharing

FoxiewireWhat happens when you mix the social link sharing of a Web site like digg with the fanatical fans of Mozilla’s Firefox? I have a feeling you would get something that looks like the newest edition to the social news bookmarking world Foxiewire.com.

Another new Spread Firefox project, this one shows a lot of promise. It is built on the digg cloning script, pligg – so the interface should be one that you are used to by now. The only thing that bugs me thus far is when you click on a link, it does not take you directly to the story.

Oh the other thing that bugs me is there is no mention of Firefox Facts! (only kidding guys) If you are looking for yet another Web site to help you stay on top of the Firefox world – Foxiewire might be the place for you.

Mozilla Social Network?

If the Web can be a more social experience, then why shouldn’t the Web browser follow?

Enter “The Coop”, a Mozilla Labs project to experiment with adding social tools to the web browser. We want to create a fun and easy way to share links with your friends, and to browse the set of links that friends have shared with you. We also want to make it easy to “subscribe” to a friend in order to make it easy to keep track of the pictures, movies, blog posts and status information that they might be posting on a variety of services.

The Coop sounds pretty interesting and might just be that next big step in the social Web experience.

Firefox Facts on MyBlogLog

Want to help me out with a social experiment?

Go add yourself as a reader (or in their terms, “member”) of Firefox Facts via MyBlogLog. I have been seeing this pop up on all my favorite Web sites, so I thought I would jump in on the fun and see who comes up as a reader here.

If nobody interacts, it will probably be gone soon – but if I see a lot of members coming up then I might have to keep it around. I’d like to see who reads Firefox Facts and see what other Web sites you find interesting.

Also feel free to add me as a friend as well.

Add Favicons to Del.icio.us

I have just recently given del.icio.us a second shot.

After being kind of disappointed the first time around, I do have to say that I am becoming a little more hooked on the idea now. The whole process is easier, but there was just something missing from the interface.

I needed favicons on these links!

Well, I had a look around and I hunted down a Greasemonkey script that did the job. This script, fav.icio.us2, does one simple job and it does it well. It adds favicons to all the links you see that have been saved to del.icio.us.

Now all I need is more time to save all my favorite links.

Simpy

There are dozen and one different places that act as a place to store your bookmarks. There is nothing new here. Depending on the ones you like, Simpy might be the choice for you. If it is, I have a Firefox extension I know you are going to love.

Folkd and Firefox

Yes I have yet another social news and information service for you. Before you roll your eyes and head on though, give me a few more seconds of your time. This new service from folkd.com is finally one that doesn’t seem like a direct ripoff of Digg.com.
