eBay Firefox Tips and Tools Am I weird? I never fell victim to becoming obsessive compulsive about eBay so maybe a lot of these tools fell under the radar for me before, but after taking a look there are a slew of Firefox extensions to help you get the most out of your online auctions.

Flagfox - Where is that Server?

Flagfox Extention for FirefoxDon’t you sometimes wonder where that server is that is hosting the web site you are viewing? Ok, maybe it isn’t something we all day dream about - but I do have a special connection with the web hosting world. Flagfox is a simple extention that does a simple job - it displays a country flag in the status bar depicting the location of the current web site’s server.

Here is a little more information from the extension developer:

It uses relatively little resources, and works by accessing an IP address database contained within the extension rather than relying on top-level-domain roots like “.com” or “.uk”. Clicking on the icon brings up further information from Wikipedia or Geotool, which is an online Geolocation tool. Geotool attempts to get more information from the Website’s IP address, such as ISP and city and shows the location on a Google Map.

Don’t Track Me!

Track Me NotHey I see you, walking down the street - keeping your eye on me. Don’t think that I am not on to your little tricks, because I know exactly what you are doing. You are tracking me aren’t you?

If you have found yourself in the same boat I am in right now you might want to pick up the TrackMeNot extension for Firefox. Not sure what its about? Here is how the creators explain it:

TrackMeNot is a lightweight browser extension that helps protect web searchers from surveillance and data-profiling by search engines. It does so not by means of concealment or encryption (i.e. covering one’s tracks), but instead, paradoxically, by the opposite strategy: noise and obfuscation.

You can learn more about TrackMeNot via the official web site as well. This is a great tool for not just the paranoid among us but the folks that want to stay protected as well.

Track Your Packages

I really hate waiting for packages because it seems like it ruins my day most of the time. Everybody (other than UPS) seems to forget where my house is or they like to hide the packages somewhere on the property and just tell me, “they were delivered”. Well I have an extension that might help you track packages - but it will not (unfortunately) give the bad delivery services a kick in the rear for you.

This extension makes it easier to track a package when the web page or email does not provide you with a link to the shipping company’s tracking page. Simply highlight the tracking number, right click, and click “Track Package”. It will automatically determine which company’s tracking page to go to.

Right now this extension currently supports: UPS, FedEx, DHL, USPS, Canada Post, TNT and Purolator.
