Don’t you love how swiss knives seem to have a tool for every occasion? Well the WebSwissKnifeToolBar is a Greasemonkey script that does the same for your browser.

Brought to my attention by its creator, this user script adds a lot of functionality to Firefox. Here are just a few things it can do.

  • Easy an fast search for: Google, YouTube videos, and Wikipedia (Spanish and English)
  • Translator English<->Spanish, with just a click
  • Spanish dictionary (RAE), with just a click
  • Convert a long URL to a tiny URL, with just a click
  • Put and save sticky notes on the Web

Add Google Reader to Gmail

You can now check your Gmail and Google Reader at the same time with this amazing Greasemonkey script that will show a link for your feeds in the sidebar of Gmail. It will also show you how many unread feeds you currently have and when you click on the link it pulls up your unread articles! (found via digg)

Greasemonkey is a Firefox extension that allows you to write scripts that alter the web pages you visit. You can use it to make a website more readable or more usable. You can fix bugs that the site owner can’t be bothered to fix themselves.

Secure Google Calendar

It might be a ‘bit of a work around, but there is a way you can get a secure login for Google’s Calendar application. If you use Google Calendar, I would suggest you give this a shot for more security.

In fact, even if you change your Google Calendar bookmark URL to https, you’ll often be redirected to a plain old http connection. boo, Google! That’s why I’ve found Mark Pilgrim’s GMail Secure Greasemonkey script invaluable. It’s built to force a secure connection for GMail, but the script itself is so generic that it works for other sites.

Floating Link Preview

I like any tool that can help me see where I am going. You wouldn’t walk into a haunted house without a flash light, right? Well, think of the Internet as your haunted house, and Floating Link Preview as your flash light. This Greasemonkey script gives you a nice thumbnail image whenever you hover over any link to let you know what is behind that link.

Watch Yahoo! Music Videos in Firefox

This Greasemonkey script opens all Yahoo Launch music videos in a new window so that they will be playable with MS Windows Media Player or mplayerplug-in in Firefox. Since I have Yahoo/AT&T as my ISP, I have been getting access to some of the Yahoo! Music Plus features for some time. Now I can actually use them!

To use this script you must have Greasemonkey for Firefox installed.

Greased Lightbox

As far as viewing graphics goes, Lightbox development has gone a long way for making it look more professional and pretty. What if you could add that to a Web site that didn’t provide it in the first place? To do that, you will need the Greased Lightbox Greasemonkey user script.

Greased Lightbox is a Greasemonkey/Creammonkey/Opera user script designed to enhance browsing on websites that link to images such as Google Image Search, Flickr, Wikipedia, Facebook, MySpace, and deviantART.

This script adds a nice interface to any graphics you might be browsing. I have been using a lightbox script for WordPress on SB1Online.com for some time now and I just love it. Adding that functionality to a Web site that doesn’t have it is even cooler.

To use this script you must have Greasemonkey for Firefox installed.
